Sam Tordoff took his first British Touring Car pole position by beating team-mate Jason Plato at Snetterton. The Triple Eight-run works MG6s dominated practice and again moved to the top with their first runs in qualifying. Tordoff managed 1m56.817s to Plato’s 1m56.919s before moving even further clear of his double champion team-mate with a 1m56.696s, almost a second faster than last year’s pole.

Jason Plato was fastest on the second and final day of the British Touring Car Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton. With cars running soft, medium and prototype rubber compounds, direct comparison was difficult, but Plato’s MG6 was fastest in both morning and afternoon sessions. The double champion’s 1m57.248s best right at the end of the test was 0.3s faster than team-mate Sam Tordoff’s day one benchmark, and also Frank Wrathall’s 2012 pole time

The works MG squad set the pace on the first day of the official British Touring Car test at Snetterton. Sam Tordoff’s MG6 recorded 1m57.534s in the morning session – a fraction faster than Frank Wrathall’s 2012 pole time – and only team-mate Jason Plato was able to join him under the 1m58s barrier. Tordoff then led Plato again in the afternoon session, in which the MGs failed to improve on their earlier times.

Leading British Touring Car figures believe Colin Turkington is now a threat for the title after his impressive weekend at Croft. The 2009 champion took his WSR-run NGTC BMW 125i M Sport to pole , two wins and a second at the North Yorkshire venue. The results moved him to fifth in the drivers’ table, 40 points behind leader Matt Neal with half the season still to go

Colin Turkington gave WSR’s NGTC BMW its first British Touring Car pole by topping a dramatic qualifying session at Croft.

Andrew Jordan topped the British Touring Car field once again in free practice at Croft. The Eurotech Honda Civic driver set his best of 1m25.378s, less than half a second slower than Matt Neal’s 2012 pole time, halfway through free practice one. A late effort in practice one brought Jason Plato’s works MG up to second, less than a tenth slower than Jordan.

Jason Plato topped British Touring Car qualifying at Oulton Park with a dominant performance in his works MG. Plato set a 1m26.130s early on in the session and then sat in the pits as his rivals repeatedly tried – and failed – to match him. Reigning champion Gordon Shedden’s works Honda Civic got closest with 1m26.429s, only to lose the time for exceeding the track limits

British Touring Car frontrunner Mat Jackson is targeting the top three in the championship this year. Jackson currently lies seventh in the standings, 64 points behind third-placed Jason Plato, and has recently switched from Motorbase Performance’s S2000 Ford Focus to its new NGTC version . Despite the team’s emphasis on developing the NGTC Focus for a 2013 title tilt, Jackson believes he can still score well this season
