Nico Hulkenberg says he is using his tough 2013 Formula 1 season with Sauber as a chance to prove his character, rather than bemoaning his team choice. When Hulkenberg left Force India for Sauber at the end of last year, the Swiss team had just scored four podium finishes over the season and challenged for several race wins, while Force India’s limit was fourth places.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes Formula 1′s focus should be on ensuring there is no repeat of the tyre fiasco it has faced this year, rather than working out who is to blame for what happened. Ahead of a busy few weeks for the teams working out how to get on top of a whole new generation of tyres from the Hungarian Grand Prix, Horner suggests that it is essential F1 does not dwell too much on why the sport came so close to disaster. “As with all these things, it is never straightforward,” Horner told AUTOSPORT.

British Grand Prix talk is often dominated by the weather, but Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will give the skies more attention than normal ahead of the race because track temperature appears key to their chances of victory. With their Mercedes team openly admitting that it is not yet convinced it is on top of its race day tyre issues, efforts in recent weeks have been focused on moving the car development and set-up in a direction that is better for the rubber.

Pirelli has confirmed the construction of its tyres will remain unchanged at least until the Hungarian Grand Prix, scrapping its initial plan. The Italian tyre manufacturer had intended to introduce its modified tyres for the Canadian Grand Prix, but then agreed to just test them in practice before a planned introduction in the British Grand Prix.

MONZA, Italy — Next year’s F-1 schedule consists of a record 20 races and runs from mid March until the end of November. All 19 events this season are retained and India joins, although it remains tentative until the new circuit passes the FIA inspection. Much to the resentment of those who do all the hard work on the F-1 trail — the mechanics and the hospitality staff — Monaco is, as it was this year, on the weekend following the Spanish race.
