Scott Redding will graduate into MotoGP next year after signing for Honda’s satellite Gresini squad. The Briton, who currently leads this year’s Moto2 championship from Tech 3 Yamaha-bound Pol Espargaro, will join Gresini on a two-year deal.

Harry Scott Jr has completed a deal to buy the Phoenix Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup team from James Finch. Phoenix is best known for winning the April 2009 Talladega race with future champion Brad Keselowski, and for signing Kurt Busch when he was dropped by Penske at the end of ’11.

Former Jaguar Formula 1 test driver Bjorn Wirdheim will make his prototype debut in this weekend’s Interlagos round of the World Endurance Championship with the Greaves LMP2 squad. The 33-year-old, who has raced in Japan since 2006, will drive the Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan Z11SN alongside Gunnar Jeannette and Christian Zugel in Brazil.

Jenson Button is still waiting for McLaren to confirm that he will be racing there next season. The Briton hopes to remain at the Woking-based team for 2014, but has revealed that nothing is guaranteed as his bosses have yet to take up an option they have on him. “I think I have a contract for next year, but I don’t think it has a signature on it yet though,” explained Button.

Honda will run a third works World Touring Car Civic for Takuya Izawa, the current Super GT championship points leader, for his home race at Suzuka. It will be the first time Izawa, who has won in a multitude of series from Japanese Formula 3 to Formula Nippon, has competed in World Touring Cars. He has however tested for JAS, which runs Honda’s factory WTCC effort, previously.

Carlos Sainz Jr says he is no hurry to secure a Formula 1 drive, as he feels it is still too early for him despite impressing in his test with the two Red Bull-owned teams. The 18-year-old drove for both Red Bull and Toro Rosso during the young driver test at Silverstone earlier this month. Sainz, second quickest in his first Formula 1 outing, said the teams were very happy with his performances.

Long-time GP2 frontrunner Luca Filippi will test an IndyCar for Bryan Herta Autosport at Mid-Ohio on Wednesday with a view to potentially replacing Alex Tagliani at the track’s forthcoming race. Confirmation of the Italian’s test coincided with the news that Tagliani has agreed to step out of the race seat following a string of poor performances, although the Canadian will remain under contract to the team through to the end of the season. A Herta statement reiterated its long-held plans to expand to a two-car team next year, and explained the change as an opportunity to evaluate new drivers and gather additional feedback about the car

Sportscar ace Lucas Luhr will make his IndyCar debut at Sonoma in August after landing a one-off drive with Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. The 34-year-old German, who won the 2011 GT1 World title and is on course to defend his American Le Mans Series LMP1 crown this year, will partner team regular Josef Newgarden at the California road course. Luhr said that the drive had come about thanks to his links with Honda Performance Development, which is involved in his ALMS programme with LMP1 squad Pickett Racing and also powers Fisher’s Indy machines

James Davison will make his IndyCar debut with Dale Coyne Racing at next weekend’s Mid-Ohio race. The Australian put himself in the frame for the drive with a successful test with the team at the 2.3 mile road course last month, and confirmed the deal by Tweeting a picture of himself having a seat fitting earlier this week.

The Australian will undertake four tests at Motegi for Honda’s R&D team, with the aim of evolving the RC213V and developing the new production-based racer Honda will sell to selected teams for next year’s championship. Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin believes he can be ready to step up to Formula 1 with Sauber in 2014. It was announced last week that as part of Sauber’s new partnership with a trio of Russian companies, Sirotkin will be placed on a development programme “to prepare him as a racing driver for the team in 2014 .” Despite his age (17) and relative lack of experience near the top of the single seater ladder, Formula Renault 3.5 rookie Sirotkin believes that he can be prepared for F1 in time for 2014
