Nico Rosberg believes Mercedes is now going into grand prix weekends as the favourite for success. The team is up to second in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship, has taken pole for five of the eight races so far in 2013, and claimed two victories – only one less than Red Bull and equal to Ferrari. “Slowly but surely we are dropping into the role of being favourites, which is fantastic,” said Rosberg.

Nico Rosberg says it is still too early to start thinking of the 2013 Formula 1 title despite taking his second win of the season in the British Grand Prix . The Mercedes driver benefitted from the problems that hit team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel – who both retired from the lead – to clinch his second victory in three races, having also won in Monaco . The result left Rosberg 50 points behind Vettel in the standings

Audi was better prepared than ever in its successful bid for a 12th Le Mans 24 Hours victory last weekend, according to race winner Allan McNish. McNish, who took victory at the wheel of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he shared with Tom Kristensen and Loic Duval, has paid testament to the Audi Sport and Joest Racing organisations in the wake of the race. “To me, the team prepared better than any other year to fight off the challenge of Toyota,” he said.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner says Mercedes’ punishments for breaking Formula 1′s testing regulations were too lenient. Last week the FIA International Tribunal reprimanded Mercedes and ruled that it could not participate in next month’s young driver test at Silverstone as a penalty for using its 2013 car for three days of running with Pirelli at Barcelona in May

Williams has vowed not to give up on its current car, despite enduring its worst start to a season in its Formula 1 history. Ahead of its 600th F1 start at the British Grand Prix, Williams has yet to score a world championship point in 2013 on the back of struggles with its FW35. But although the difficulties may have tempted it to switch all its resources on to the challenge of the new 2014 regulations, deputy team principal Claire Williams says the outfit is determined to get itself back in shape this year
