Harry Scott Jr has completed a deal to buy the Phoenix Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup team from James Finch. Phoenix is best known for winning the April 2009 Talladega race with future champion Brad Keselowski, and for signing Kurt Busch when he was dropped by Penske at the end of ’11.

Kurt Busch’s passionate attitude will be an ideal fit when he joins Stewart-Haas for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup, reckons team co-owner Gene Haas. Busch has rebuilt his career at midfield teams Phoenix and Furniture Row over the past two seasons after losing his Penske seat in late 2011 following a string of controversies .

Audi Le Mans driver Oliver Jarvis will make a guest appearance on the support bill at the Superstars and Auto GP event at Donington Park this weekend. Jarvis has been called up by the MTM Audi team to race in the GT Sprint series’ UK round. The Briton will share an R8 with championship leader Thomas Schloffer

Kurt Busch is expected to be announced as a Stewart-Haas Racing driver for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup on Tuesday. He will join team owner Tony Stewart as part of an expanded four-car line-up that will also include Danica Patrick and Kevin Harvick, who is moving over from Richard Childress Racing. Busch’s current team, Furniture Row Racing, announced on Monday that the 2004 champion has refused the offer of a new multi-year-deal, leaving him free to join SHR next season

Carl Edwards set the pace on a rain-shortened NASCAR Sprint Cup practice day at Watkins Glen. The scheduled pair of 90-minute Friday practice sessions became one of half an hour and one of 45 minutes due to morning rain at the second road course on the Cup calendar. Martin Truex Jr, who won the series’ previous road course event at Sonoma in June, was fastest in the brief opening session.

Mike Rockenfeller opened up a comfortable lead in the DTM title race by winning at Moscow Raceway while chief rival Bruno Spengler failed to score. Schnitzer BMW driver Spengler was spun out of eighth spot by Rockenfeller’s Phoenix Audi team-mate Miguel Molina at Turn 1 on the fourth lap. While Molina retired soon after, Spengler fell to the tail of the field and could only nurse his damaged M3 to the finish in 19th.

Mike Rockenfeller took his second DTM pole position of the year as qualifying at Moscow Raceway was halted for the most bizarre of reasons. Championship leader Rockenfeller had set the pace in the third of four scheduled parts of qualifying in his Phoenix Audi, and was set to be joined in Q4 by Mattias Ekstrom, Augusto Farfus and Bruno Spengler. However, shortly before Q4 was due to start, the airspace above the circuit was closed due to the imminent flypast of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s private jet

Blancpain Endurance Series boss Stephane Ratel has admitted that the equalisation rules hindered Audi in last weekend’s Spa 24 Hours round and has promised changes for the remainder of the season. Stephane Ortelli and Laurens Vanthoor claimed victory for the WRT Audi squad in the FIA GT qualifying race at Zandvoort. Ortelli hung on to win by just seven tenths of a second after Maximilian Buhk moved his Gravity Charous Mercedes past the second WRT Audi R8 LMS ultra driven by Niki Mayr-Melnhof. Vanthoor got a run on front-row starters Alvaro Parente and Andreas Simonsen into the first corner and came out ahead after contact involving all three cars

Two-time Le Mans 24 Hours winners Andre Lotterer and Marcel Fassler and double DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom will join an expanded WRT Audi line-up for this month’s Spa 24 Hours. The Belgian WRT team, which won the Spa enduro in 2011 , will field a fourth Audi R8 LMS ultra in addition to its three regular entries in the Blancpain Endurance Series for the blue-riband round of the championship on July 27/28. IndyCar drivers expect a tough race when the series returns to Pocono next weekend after several had the opportunity to test at the famed tri-oval on Tuesday. Fourteen drivers from eight teams were on hand to run on the 2.5 mile oval, and Indianapolis 500 polesitter Ed Carpenter said that he liked what he found. “Turn 1 is a beast in the IndyCar,” Carpenter said.
