Matt Kenseth held off Kasey Kahne in a barnstorming finish to take victory in the NASCAR Sprint Cup night race at Bristol. It was a fantastic comeback by the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who had earlier been sent to the back for speeding in the pitlane. Kahne had to fight his way by an inspited Juan Pablo Montoya to set up the thrilling showdown, but despite getting the nose of his Hendrick Chevrolet in front a couple of times, he could not make the pass stick

Denny Hamlin scored his fourth pole position of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season with a great two-lap effort around Bristol’s testing half-mile oval. In a session where hundreths were the difference between places, Hamlin clocked a best time of 14.878s in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to secure the top spot. Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth gave Joe Gibbs Racing a front-row sweep for the NASCAR Sprint Cup’s return to Daytona. Toyota proved to have the upper hand in qualifying trim, with Busch’s 46.458-second lap, at an average of 193.723mph, putting him 0.102s clear of team-mate Kenseth, winner at Kentucky last weekend. Fellow Toyota squad Michael Waltrip Racing claimed third with Clint Bowyer.
