Sergey Sirotkin will get his first taste of Formula 1 machinery in a Sochi demonstration run for Sauber next month. The 17-year-old Russian made his first visit to Sauber’s Hinwil factory in order to familiarise himself with the team and have a seat fitting. Sirotkin, who is yet to acquire a Super Licence, will make his run on September 27 at the Sochi circuit, which is still under construction but is due to host the inaugural Russian Grand Prix next year.

Nico Hulkenberg says he is using his tough 2013 Formula 1 season with Sauber as a chance to prove his character, rather than bemoaning his team choice. When Hulkenberg left Force India for Sauber at the end of last year, the Swiss team had just scored four podium finishes over the season and challenged for several race wins, while Force India’s limit was fourth places.

Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn insists the loss of former chief designer Matt Morris is not a major setback to the team. It emerged at Silverstone that Morris had informed Sauber of his intention to move to McLaren, where he will take up the role of engineering director . McLaren has confirmed that former Sauber chief designer Matt Morris is to join the team as its new engineering director. AUTOSPORT reported on Thursday that Morris has handed in his notice at his current outfit, and he will officially relinquish his role on Monday. Morris will be switching to McLaren when he is released from his contract at Sauber, and will work under its technical director Tim Goss
