Lotus Formula 1 team chairman Gerard Lopez has hit out at reports that his team is in financial trouble. Lopez, co-owner of Genii Capital, which bought the then-Renault squad in late 2009, believes that the nature of the team’s €120 million debt has been misunderstood. He also denied suggestions that staff had not been paid, and laughed off claims that a strike at the team’s Enstone base had been threatened recently.

The FIA’s Formula E Championship has agreed a deal with Fox Sports that will ensure coverage in over 80 countries next year. The new series for all-electric vehicles will be broadcast live exclusively on the network in the USA and across a series of exclusive and non-exclusive platforms in other regions.

The GT Le Mans class in next year’s merged United SportsCar Racing series will remain an open tyre formula, despite confirmation that the other three classes will run control rubber. The decision to allow competition between tyre manufacturers in GTLM, which as GT is fought out between Chevrolet, BMW, Chrysler/SRT, Ferrari, and Porsche in the American Le Mans Series, reflects a desire to allow the cars to compete in the same specification in which they will go to the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. The Australian’s decision leaves the second Red Bull seat alongside world champion Sebastian Vettel available for 2014, with Kimi Raikkonen already strongly linked to the drive . Porsche has confirmed Neel Jani will join its LMP1 effort from next year, competing in the World Endurance Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The Swiss driver, a former Toro Rosso Formula 1 test driver, has been racing with the Rebellion team in sportscar since the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours.
