Formula Renault 3.5 race winner Sam Bird will return to the category for this week’s pre-season test at Paul Ricard as a benchmark driver for ISR. The Mercedes Formula 1 test driver was a championship contender for the Czech squad last year, eventually finishing third in the standings behind Robin Frijns and Jules Bianchi. ISR has so far only signed Sergey Sirotkin for 2013, and it has recruited Bird to help with its pre-season preparations in France

DUQUOIN, Ill. — Kody Swanson took advantage of a relatively new USAC Silver Crown rule and ended up winning the Ted Horn 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds Sunday night. DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec — Darrell Lanigan continued his spectacular World of Outlaws Late Model Series season by rolling to his sixth victory of the year Monday at Autodrome Drummond. The victory allowed Lanigan to pull within 12 points of defending series champion and point-leader Josh Richards, who has led the standings for the last 25 events. “The track was excellent tonight,” said Lanigan, who earned $10,600 for winning the event that was postponed by rain June 19.
