IndyCar has targeted a move outside of North America by 2015 with a series of off-season races around the world that could form a winter championship. The aim of the races would be to give IndyCar teams new revenue streams over an off-season that looks likely to grow from next year, when the calendar could climax as early as the end of August.

Ex-Formula 1 driver Philippe Alliot will return to the wheel of a Ligier grand prix car in historic racing later this year. The 59-year-old Frenchman, who contested 23 grands prix for the French squad in 1986 and 1990, has purchased a Ligier JS11 from team founder Guy Ligier together with two friends. Ex-Formula 1 driver Christian Klien is open to extending his one-race Auto GP deal beyond this weekend’s event at Mugello. The former Jaguar, Red Bull and HRT F1 racer has a one-off deal in place with Zele Racing for this weekend, but he told AUTOSPORT at Mugello on Friday that he is open to completing the rest of the Auto GP season.
