Formula 1′s fight at the front appears to be even closer in 2013 than it was last season, according to Lotus technical director James Allison. Romain Grosjean does not believe the lack of news over his Lotus future is a bad sign, despite team-mate Kimi Raikkonen’s 2013 deal already being announced. Frenchman Grosjean is expected to stay on for another year at the team, which confirmed on Monday that Raikkonen had signed a new, one-year, contract .

Marussia will run a significant upgrade to its MR01 for the rest of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend despite being unable to gather any data during Friday’s two wet free practice sessions at Spa. The team brought a big package to Belgium, consisting of several new parts including new bridge wings, bodywork and tea tray, exhausts, flick-ups on the rear brake hubs, and a completely new concept rear wing. It is the second big upgrade Marussia has been able to produce this year using McLaren’s windtunnel, as part of its technical agreement with the Woking outfit, and the team hopes it could be worth as much as half a second in race trim

Nico Hulkenberg believes Force India has the potential to beat race-winners Williams in constructors’ championship this year – and has not ruled out overhauling Sauber either. Although Force India had a slow start to the season, the team has made good progress with its VJM05 car since then – with both Hulkenberg and team-mate Paul di Resta showing strong potential at numerous races. Force India is only seven points behind Williams in the team standings and Hulkenberg thinks that further development progress can help lift it past its Grove-based rivals
