Four years ago, a younger, unpolished Steven Wilson arrived at what was then Atlanta Motor Speedway, seeking his first career eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series victory in the third round of the 2022 season. In his rookie campaign the season prior, Wilson managed a top-five result. This time, however, Wilson would get the better of the dominant Nick Ottinger to claim his first win in series history.

Entering EchoPark Speedway this past Tuesday, now Wilson stands as one of the greats of the series, now a two-time champion, entering the night tied for fourth on the all-time wins list at 17 wins with another champion of the series, Ryan Luza. After 104 laps around the chaotic-coded corners in Hampton, Georgia, Wilson broke free of that tie, scoring his 18th career victory in the series, his first of the season, and his third at the track, crowning him the most-winningest driver at EchoPark, now with three wins to his name.

Wilson started 17th, and for the early stages of the night, passing was difficult to make happen. It wasn’t until 36 laps to go that Wilson cracked the top-10 for the first time. It took until 19 to go to lead his first lap. Through a number of cautions and restarts in the late going, including a bout of eNASCAR Overtime, Wilson managed to take control on Lap 92 and hold on the rest of the way for the win.

Once again with NASCAR Cup Series standout, and his Spire Motorsports teammate Carson Hocevar on the other line, Wilson said post-race that it was a matter of controlling the lanes on the older tires and not letting his competition take control from him. “It was a lot of blocking the bottom on entry there,” Wilson said. “Just trying to make sure that I gave them dirty air, to slow them down because we were on old enough tires to where that kind of mattered, and they had to lift a bit if they were behind me.”

As he crossed the line, Wilson leaned forward and bowed, paying tribute to NASCAR legend Kyle Busch with a winning tradition that Busch made famous through his many wins over his career before his untimely passing less than two weeks at the age of 41. Nearly every car in the field, including Wilson’s, had some form of tribute placed on their car for Busch.

Busch’s last career victory in NASCAR came running for Spire Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Dover Motor Speedway on May 15th. Spire then won their next race in the Cup Series with Daniel Suarez at Charlotte two Sundays ago. Now, in the eNASCAR ranks, Wilson managed to put Spire back in victory lane once again in honor of Kyle. “I did a little ‘mini-bow’ there for KB,” Wilson said. “Shoutout to KB, everyone in the Busch family. Thinking about you guys. Happy to have them on the car—a little decal on the car today.”

THE EVENT

EchoPark Speedway is famous for close racing and closer finishes in the NASCAR Cup Series. Dale Earnhardt edged Bobby Labonte in 2000. Kevin Harvick defeated Jeff Gordon in 2001. Carl Edwards nosed Jimmie Johnson at the line in 2005. Even after the reconfigure, Daniel Suarez got himself a three-wide photo finish win over Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch in 2024.

The same notion also exists in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series ranks, as Wilson’s second win at the track was just by a margin of 0.015 seconds over Kollin Keister in 2023, and the following year, Malik Ray got himself a three-wide photo finish win over Darik Bourdeau and Collin Bowden.

Both Wilson and Ray were heavy favorites entering the night, but many of the veterans noted pre-race that the event would be more handling based than in past seasons, which led many to believe that the intermediate kings would prevail over the superspeedway legends.

Kanaan Esports’ Vicente Salas put his No. 11 Camry on the pole, alongside Channel 199 Sim Racing’s Dylan Duval on the front row. Salas led the opening lap, but it would be the only one he would lead all night as Duval took control on Lap 2. Duval, pushed by his former teammate Zack Novak—Novak now sporting the JR Motorsports banner—led the way on the bottom lane as the top struggled to establish itself early on.

Jim Beaver eSports’ Nate Stewart led that charge on what was the top-most lane at the time, despite a third option being available closer to the wall. In the early going, not many wanted to venture to the very top, and for good reason, as the lane was both littered with marbles and the bottom just had all of the grip at the start. Eventually, on Lap 17, Stewart was able to lead, but the lanes would swap momentum, with Duval leading some laps and Stewart leading others.

At the start of Lap 30, the first major incident took place, but the caution flag stayed tucked away. To this point, there had not yet been a caution in this season, with the entirety of the Coca-Cola 160 at Charlotte Motor Speedway going caution-free. It almost flew for an incident involving rookies Tommy Gossett and Dylan Basen, as well as veteran Tucker Minter, the meat in the middle of the mess that nearly ended multiple races.

CAUTION-FREE STREAK ENDS AT 193 LAPS

It took another three laps for the first caution of the year to fly on Lap 33, and it was a doozy. As Stewart took control of the race on Lap 31, the bottom lane began to shift slicker and less gripped up. This allowed for some leap frogging, including laps led by the other Channel 199 car, Blake Reynolds, as well as Novak. As Novak took the lead, however, behind him, there was shuffling to get into the spot to take the run on the next lap. Stewart, pinned on the bottom, had a small hole in front of him. Vegas Inferno’s Michael Guest looked to fill that hole, but it closed as Stewart’s nose tracked up to take the corner.

The result was a spinning No. 21 Camry, as he weight shifted into the wall after a few bounced off of cars below. The incident included the opening round winner, Bobby Zalenski (ERA eSports Team), among others. It ultimately ended Guest’s day early as he parked it a few laps later on Lap 47.

With the first caution of the season out of the way, the floodgates were opened for more. The timing of the yellow meant that green flag pit stops were cancelled for the night, meaning the new pit road entry on the backstretch would not be used at race speed. The initial caution did set up scenarios of differing strategies, but the subsequent yellows following ultimately meant that it would be a race of surviving the chaos.

SOME USUAL SUSPECTS, SOME NEW FACES AT THE FRONT

Some new players found their way to the top of the leaderboards after a while. Parker White (Williams F1 Team Gaming) and Femi Olatunbosun (Spire Motorsports) spent some time leading laps. One thing that was tricky, however, was the balance change when leading as opposed to the feel of the car when in the pack. This caught the rookie, Gossett, off guard as he took the lead for the first time on Lap 52, and then got loose in front of the field a lap later, hurting his chances and many others as a result.

Malik Ray (JR Motorsports) felt the same feeling when he took control on Lap 67. The balance was just right for Rick Ware Racing’s Garrett Manes, however. Manes got some damage early in the going, but it didn’t prevent him from being able to pull a pack around. Manes first led on Lap 57, losing the lead briefly to Ray from laps 67 to 73 before taking it back on Lap 74. His next challenger would be Wilson, who was able to lead the 82nd lap, but Manes kept in control and looked poised to finally nab a victory at the top level.

That dream came to a screeching halt with two laps to go in regulation. The seventh and final caution saw Manes go around after some chain bumping behind went off center, sending his No. 51 into the path of another rookie, Kanaan Esports’ Sebastian Marin. Marin would recover to finish 23rd while Manes only managed to get back to 29th.

Wilson, now in control, still had a Rick Ware Racing machine to contend with. Daniel Faulkingham managed to claw his way into position late, with Letarte Esports’ Connor Yeroschak also in position to pounce on a potential victory.

On the final restart, Wilson was on the bottom with Yeroschak alongside on the top. Wilson launched perfectly, allowing Faulkingham to follow through into second. Yeroschak now had Ray to his inside, and everyone’s tires were on the virtual cords. Wilson and Faulkingham went side-by-side, but Yeroschak managed to shove the champion back into the lead. The third lane just wasn’t there, and the old tires mixed with dirty air was the perfect storm. Off of Turn 4 for the final time, Wilson managed to hang on for the win.

POINTS SITUATION LEAVING ECHOPARK

With two races of data to work with, the points scenarios are beginning to flesh out leaving EchoPark Speedway.

In the Playoff Standings, Steven Wilson makes it easy by having the most points out of anyone, leading the way and all but sealing his seat in this season’s eNASCAR Playoffs. Also at the top of the standings is Bobby Zalenski, winner at Charlotte two weeks ago. While he’s second in the Playoff Standings, Zalenski is only tied for seventh in the Segment 1 standings after his 22nd place finish at EchoPark. Only one race remains in this Segment, and things are looking great for Wilson as the next race will include left and right turns. More on that in a moment.

With the Wilson win, the defending Team Champions at Spire Motorsports reclaim the top spot for the first time this season, leading by just five points over the new look JR Motorsports. JR Motorsports managed a double top-five effort, with Malik Ray in fourth and Zack Novak recovering to finish in fifth. Zalenski and Michael Cosey Jr on the ERA eSports Team drop down to fourth from the lead, just behind the William Byron eSports duo of Tucker Minter and Christopher Hill.

In the Rookie of the Year ranks, RFK Racing’s Shawn Conklin had another solid outing, finishing in 14th, and leads those points by seven over Team Dillon Esports’ Kenny Brady, who claimed his first-career top-10 on Tuesday, finishing in eighth. Thomas Lloyd (Letarte Esports), however, was the Rookie of the race, finishing in seventh, collecting his first top-10 as well, and also earning the title of the biggest mover of the race, up 29 spots from 36th on the grid.

SCHEDULE CHANGE: NAVAL BASE CORONADO TO BE RUN ON JUNE 16TH

With the confirmation last week that Qualcomm Circuit—better known as the new NASCAR track on the Naval Base Coronado—is joining the iRacing service next week in the 2026 Season 3 build, the decision was made to add it to the eNASCAR calendar as well in conjunction with the real-world event.

The third race of the season—originally scheduled at Iowa Speedway—will now be at Qualcomm Circuit on June 16th. Iowa remains on the schedule, but will now replace Mexico City’s race date on July 7th. The fourth race of the season at Dover Motor Speedway on June 23rd, as well as the remainder of the calendar, remains unchanged.

Naval Base Coronado, located in San Diego, California, will host its first NASCAR weekend from June 19th to June 21st. As Greg Hill said in the Development Blog last week, “iRacing and NASCAR have collaborated to design, prototype, test, and iterate the track layout in preparation for the real-world grid next month.” The final layout that NASCAR uses will be thanks to this process, and subsequently, the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series competition will be the first to take on the 3.4-mile street course.

The Streets of Chicago have been a staple on the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series calendar since 2022, those race wins split among Steven Wilson (2022 All-Star), Bobby Zalenski (2023 & 2024), and most recently, Vicente Salas (2025). Expect those names to be some of the players in this inaugural Coronado event.

The third round on the calendar, and the final race in Segment 1, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16th. Tune in at 7:45 p.m. ET for the Countdown to Green. Race coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET at eNASCAR.com/live and across iRacing social media channels.
