2024-25 eNASCAR College iRacing Series | Race Preview: Talladega Superspeedway
February 4th, 2025 by Justin Melillo
The eNASCAR College iRacing Series presented by Playfly College Esports continues their second half of the 2024-25 campaign on Tuesday night. This week, 40 collegiate drivers qualified into the A-Main race through the official Time Attack, and will compete for their share of scholarship money and championship points at Talladega Superspeedway.
The students will take on the latest challenge in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series in the final superspeedway race on the calendar. The sixth race of the season will stream live on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. ET at eNASCAR.com/live and across all of iRacing’s social media channels.
About the Series: The eNASCAR College iRacing Series presented by Playfly College Esports gives college students from the United States and Canada the opportunity to compete for their share of $60,000 in scholarships. Using machines from the NASCAR Xfinity Series or NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 40 drivers qualify for the event by registering here and posting their fastest lap times in a two-week Time Attack through the iRacing UI. With hundreds of colleges and universities represented in each Time Attack and a limitation on the amount of qualified drivers per school, drivers are competing not only against the greater iRacing community, but also their own classmates, for a spot on the prestigious grid.
Last Race: Parker White reminded everyone why he’s the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series champion again two weeks ago at Watkins Glen. The University of Maine at Augusta student won in his first outing at Daytona last year, but had struggled in the last three races on the 2024 side of the schedule. To kick off 2025, White dominated, leading all 31 laps over the University of Iowa’s Steven Wilson and Cal State Fullerton’s Logan Clampitt.
Last Season: After countless close calls, finally in the 2023-24 season, UNC at Charlotte’s Garrett Lowe prevailed in his 13th series start at Talladega Superspeedway. Lowe, pushed by his classmate Kealoha Hankins on the final restart, Lowe managed to get ahead of the big one on the final lap with the University of Maryland’s Elliot White behind and University of Maine at Machias student Daniel Faulkingham ahead. Lowe used the draft and momentum to get ahead to win at the line.
Track Info: Envisioned by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. to be even bigger and faster than Daytona International Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway opened in 1969 and has hosted the NASCAR Cup Series ever since. Renowned for its high speeds, Buddy Baker became the first driver in NASCAR history to turn a 200 mile per hour lap at the track in 1970, and Bill Elliott set NASCAR’s all-time qualifying record at Talladega with a speed of 212.809 mph in 1987. Talladega is also known for producing many first-time winners, such as Richard Brickhouse in its inaugural race, and lead changes, sometimes with dozens of drivers leading laps.
