Martin Kadlečík, Matt Caruana split 2026 Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series wins at Laguna Seca
May 22nd, 2026 by Justin Melillo
Once again, WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca provided the action in the Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series return on Thursday night. Not having been seen on the schedule since the inaugural 2022 edition, Laguna Seca hosted the second round of the 2026 season, and two standouts stood atop the podiums come the end of the night.
Taking the front row in qualifying, the opening round at Lime Rock Park’s dominant force, Martin Kadlečík, started alongside last year’s dominant force, Matt Caruana. The two swapped the lead multiple times throughout the two races. The end result was a win for each by the end of the night.
While Caruana led the majority of the way in the first race, Kadlečík kept close throughout, taking the lead with just minutes to go en route to his second win of the season. Caruana would not be denied in the second race, however, holding off the charge from both Kadlečík and Ayden Young.
Kadlečík leads the way after four races, but there are to be some drop races factored in at the end of the season, so don’t count out Caruana or the winner from last week, Guglielmo Callegari, just yet. Next up is a trip to VIRginia International Raceway on June 4th.
RACE #1
Off the start, which was a point of contention in Round 1 at Lime Rock Park, Kadlečík made sure not to jump this time around. However, this gave the early advantage to Caruana as a result.
The two pulled away as the rest of the field battled, with Vincent Aparicio also gapping the field, but losing the top two in the battle for the win. With three laps to go, Kadlečík managed to get the run and make the pass on Caruana. Caruana tried to get back, but Kadlečík held on.

RACE #2
In a similar fashion to the second race at Lime Rock Park, there were more cars in the conversation once again in the second race at Laguna Seca. Once again, Caruana got away, and this time, Kadlečík fell into the clutches of Young for second, with Aparicio also contending in fourth.
Kadlečík eventually managed to get back by, but it messed up his flow, and any advantage he had at the end of the first race was not present in the second. On the final lap, Caruana held off both Kadlečík and Young in the final corner to win his first race of the season.
