Martin Kadlečík scores two more 2026 Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series wins at VIRginia International Raceway
June 5th, 2026 by Justin Melillo
It’s been a contentious start to the 2026 Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series season for Martin Kadlečík. Through the first half of the season, Kadlečík has crossed the line in first five times, including both races on Thursday night in the third round of the year at VIRginia International Raceway. However, his second win at Lime Rock Park wound up a third place effort after incurring a time penalty, then at Laguna Seca, Kadlečík was disqualified from both races, which meant a completely zeroed-out night of racing for his first place and second place efforts.
Now halfway through the season, while the points standings don’t currently reflect it, Kadlečík has shown that he is the driver to beat week in and out. The only other driver to cross a line ahead of him was Caruana at Laguna Seca. This week, Caruana, the defending series champion, was in position to take another round of wins, but losing second place early in the first race put him behind the eight ball for the entirety of the night.
In the past two seasons, VIRginia has belonged to Matt Caruana, the winner of the last five races at the track, many times in dramatic fashion. This time around, the dramatics, specifically around the finishes, were fewer. Kadlečík’s biggest threat was Pintér Zsombi throughout the night, the only other driver to lead laps in either event. Zsombi seemingly couldn’t get the run out of the final corner in the first race, then in the second, it looked as though he pulled over and let Kadlečík through. In either case, the two were the same through both races, with podiums belonging to Caruana and Guglielmo Callegari in respective races.
“Amazing, two race wins,” Kadlečík said post-race. “Qualifying was again the key, because as long as you’re either P1 or P2, it’s a bit easier to manage the race. You can overtake each other all of the time. It was a great one, and I enjoyed it a lot. The fights were nice, and we kind of had to think about it because we had to manage the race, so it wasn’t easy this time. It wasn’t just about the pace, but also about race management. It was a lot of fun.”
Callegari was the first to lead the points after Lime Rock Park, and now reclaims that top spot, but by just a handful of points over Caruana and the former points leader, Brandon Hawkin, who is still looking for his first win of the 2026 campaign.
The second half of the series begins at Sonoma Raceway on June 18th, with the final two races of the year scheduled at Richmond Raceway on July 2nd and Circuit of the Americas on July 16th. Drop races will be in effect, which means it is still anyone’s championship to win or lose in these final three events.
RACE #1
One thing that has worked for Martin Kadlečík this season is his qualifying prowess. In all three events this season, Kadlečík has outpaced the rest of the field, putting himself at the very front for every start, giving him the best opportunity to win on any given Thursday night. Except in one case at Laguna Seca two weeks ago, where Caruana was able to score a win outright, every checkered flag has initially been taken by Kadlečík this season.
That notion stayed true as Kadlečík went to battle against Pintér Zsombi and an angry pack of cars all under a blanket for the first race. Truly, a bravo to the field for not running into one another with how close everyone was running, minus the opening lap that saw both Leo Ovtcharov and Gregory Kohler retire from the competition early. For most of the nine lap affair, more than half of the field stayed in contention, in the slipstream, attempting to make moves where they could, giving a lot more than taking in many instances.
Ultimately, a six-pack of cars found themselves in the lead draft on the final lap. Kadlečík and Zsombi ran side-by-side enough that Caruana could not make a move for a potential sixth-straight win. Off of the final corner, Kadlečík held on for the victory.

RACE #2
The fight behind the two leaders heated up further in the second race of the night. On the opening lap, Brandon Hawkin managed to go from sixth to third before the esses and held off hard charges from Matt Caruana and Guglielmo Callegari for as long as he could. Also in the fight were John Melchiorri and Ayden Young at the end of it.
Hawkin’s tires would fade, however, as he slipped back to fifth by the end of the race. Callegari and Caruana went at it for the final podium spot, but it was Callegari making the event a wash between the two, as they scored the same amount of points, which meant Callegari kept his three point advantage. Hawkin, who led them both coming in, lost seven points to the duo, placing him third in the points by the end of the day.
Up front, it was Kadlečík and Zsombi once again. This time, it looked as though Zsombi managed to make the winning move on the final lap, but off of the final corner, he pulled to the left, allowing Kadlečík to scoot by and score his second win of the night.
