Team ABR’s Alex Bergeron fell just four points short of Logitech G Altus Esports’ Tim Ryan in the inaugural iRacing World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car World Championship last season. This year, he’s got the chance to lock up the title a week early.

The Drummondville, Quebec native holds a 74-point advantage over Kasey Kahne Racing Sim Team’s David Heileman with just two races remaining, including tonight’s visit to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The final new venue on this year’s schedule, the half-mile North Carolina dirt oval returns to the 2019 championship after hosting two rounds last year.

An average performance from Bergeron, who has scored five poles and finished in the top five in all eight races so far this season, would likely lock up the title. There are a maximum of 84 points on the line for winning both a heat and the main event, which he’s done in all four of his victories so far this season. In fact, only Chase Cabre’s victory at Kokomo Speedway three weeks ago scored less than the maximum.

That’s a good omen for Bergeron, if he can replicate his win in Charlotte to close out last season. Growing the advantage by another 10 points, as he did by winning over Heileman at Williams Grove Speedway last week, would mean that Bergeron needs only to start the season finale at Knoxville Raceway to wrap up the title. Anything larger than that, and Bergeron can skip Knoxville entirely.

That said, Bergeron’s title pursuit isn’t the only tight battle to watch for tonight. Heileman only holds a six-point advantage over Swindell SpeedLab’s James Edens for second, and Austen Semmelmann and Nick Cooper are quietly battling for fifth while separated by only five points. The bottom of the top 10 could also see a shakeup this week, as Cabre and TTL Esports’ Lewis Hewett are tied for eighth, and Ryan sits only nine points behind them.

The iRacing World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car World Championship round from The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway kicks off tonight at 9PM ET. Be sure to tune into the iRacing eSports Network on Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube to watch!
