Bobby Zalenski bags 21st career eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series victory at Nashville

For the majority of Bobby Zalenski’s wins in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series, they come after a dominating day at the track, often on road courses. On the concrete oval known as Nashville Superspeedway, Zalenski had all of the cards on a night that looked to be heading towards a top-ten, at best. The ERA eSports Team competitor outlasted a second triple eNASCAR Overtime in-a-row to claim his third win of the 2026 season and the 21st of his career, breaking a tie for second on the all-time wins list with former series champion Nick Ottinger.

Zalenski only managed to qualify 17th, and during the long run, was running around 10th. Suddenly, just before the pit cycle began, Zalenski turned up the wick. The field was fragmented on strategies, and after a race two weeks ago where everyone on the same strategy wound up facing a similar dilemma in eNASCAR Overtime at Indianapolis, this time it was all over the place. Zalenski’s choice to run up to second, pit for four tires, get his lap back, and stay out for the late race restarts put him in the prime position to grab a win he might not have been in contention for without the right breaks.

On the second-to-last restart, Zalenski started in third, pushing the most-recent winner prior, Parker White, out into the lead around rookie Shawn Conklin. Once Zalenski was clear of Conklin, he moved to the outside of White and grabbed his right rear, pulling him back on the exit of the corner before the field exploded once again, setting up for a third and final restart. On that restart, the field held it together long enough to take the white flag, as to finish the race under green. Casey Kirwan, on the freshest tires up front, managed to get to second, but Zalenski held on for the win.

“I tell you what, I was just happy I got that damn caution,” Zalenski exclaimed post-race. “I never get those. I mean, last week, I was around the top-five all race, I was kind of fine with it, like, fair, it’s Indianapolis. Then we have a caution with almost one to go, and then I don’t have fuel, and then it ends up being a bad result. Today, I was like ‘oh, it happened again’, except I misread the strategy a bit. I didn’t put in fuel, so I had to pit, and I didn’t think everyone would make it on tires. We got lucky. I was like ‘this is an absolute win’ if we just finish in the top-five. I actually need points. It’s gone so damn bad in July.”

“But, a win! Right when I made it three-wide on that first restart to get to Parker, I’m like ‘oh, I’m pretty much on new tires here, I’ve got to be really aggressive’. We were able to split him and Shawn on the ultimately important restart, and man, I’m just happy. Ever since we got destroyed for the win at Dover, I’ve just had a bad stretch of finishes. It’s a good start to the Segment, too.”

Zalenski entered the race just 15 points above 21st, which if he were to have fallen below, would have negated his previous wins at Charlotte and Coronado and removed him from Playoff contention should he have finished there at the end of the Regular Season. Following his third win of the year, he’s jumped over 40 points above that cut, and if he can stay at that gap leaving Richmond next week, he’ll have nothing to worry about at the wild card that ends the Regular Season at Daytona International Speedway on August 18th.

THE UNCS VERSUS THE ROOKS

2026 might prove to have one of the strongest rookie classes in a long while, despite how the metrics display that. It’s been a true tug of war between the old guard and newcomers, with ideals clashing week-to-week, the rookies clawing their way into the conversation while the veterans cling to their place at the top level. Truly captivating stories, and it was on full display Tuesday night at Nashville Superspeedway, a race that ultimately falls in favor of the guys who have been here the longest.

Things started out with Casey Kirwan (Kansas City Pioneers) claiming his first pole position of the season. A self-proclaimed “Unc” following the race, Kirwan led the field to the green alongside Vicente Salas (Kanaan Esports) and took control early in the going. Salas fell into line in second, but up-and-comer Dylan Basen (RFK Racing) was on a mission from the get-go, and took over the second spot before the first caution of the night flew on Lap 5.

Kirwan managed to maintain the lead over Basen on the ensuing restart, and the two would leave the rest of the pack behind before the next caution at Lap 22. The timing of the caution was interesting for the strategies that emerged from it. On one hand, some drivers felt there would be no way that fuel, or tires, would make it to the end, and they either stayed out, like Femi Olatunbosun (Spire Motorsports), or short fueled their cars like Bobby Zalenski (ERA eSports Team). On the other hand, saving is always a strategy, and many of the front runners saw a potential green flag run to the end ahead of them.

Olatunbosun was one of three drivers to stay out, but it only took Kirwan four laps to get to the lead once again. Basen also made his way past Olatunbosun, and on Lap 36, he made his move to the lead. In the 100 lap race, those trying to stretch their fuel and tires would have to go about 75 laps to do so, and Basen was signed up for such a task, despite taking the lead. Into every corner, the engine sounds disappeared, coasting until he could pick it up again to hit his fuel numbers. A good chunk of the field were on this strategy, but some were not, and the pit cycle began around 40 laps to go.

All of a sudden, it was like Zalenski’s car came to life. One moment, he was fighting for 10th, and in the blink of an eye, he was passing Kirwan for second. The fuel saving strategy was slower for sure, but saving a pit stop would have been a winning one had it gone green. Zalenski peeled into the pits before he could get to Basen’s bumper, and as the field made their beds, it looked as though the race would come down to who had enough gas in the tank to cross the line first, whether that be Basen, Kirwan, or someone else further back.

With 12 laps to go, all of that got tossed out of the window as the caution flew once more.

WILSON’S NIGHT GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE

The caution that set up the wild ending came from an uncharacteristic wreck from the two-time and defending series champion, Steven Wilson (Spire Motorsports). It was reported by Ryan Vargas, who was told by David Schildhouse before the start of the race, that Wilson’s power was out at his place. This forced Wilson to find a seat with power close by during a stormy night in North Carolina. Wilson reportedly wound up racing at former eNASCAR winner Briar LaPradd’s place, and the unfamiliarity of his setup led to what would be a long night for the champ.

In qualifying, Wilson got loose in Turn 1. He was able to save it, but the slide cost him a good lap, and he would start 38th as a result. The first caution of the night was right in front of him, as the pack went four-wide and sent Daniel Faulkingham (Rick Ware Racing) sliding into Wilson’s door. Wilson had a quiet race from that point, picking up spots where he could, figuring out his environment as the laps ticked down.

On Lap 89, things went sideways. It is unclear whether it was a blown tire, or dirty air negatively affecting his old tires in a crossover traffic moment, but the No. 77 whipped violently around in the middle of Turns 1 and 2, the same place where he got loose in qualifying. This moment changed up the game for the entire field.

OVERTIME GOES FULL DISTANCE THIS TIME

Basen claims to have been good on fuel, but the caution ultimately created an impossible scenario for the rookie competitor. With the threat of eNASCAR Overtime, and the fear of not having the best tires in the final laps, Basen, along with most of the others that were stretching to the end, opted to pit in to ensure they finish the race under power, a contested point brought up two weeks ago at Indianapolis.

Parker White (Williams F1 Team Gaming) was one who stayed out completely, on both the save strategy and stay out for track position strategy post-caution. Shawn Conklin (RFK Racing) was the best of those who pitted under the green and stayed out, restarting in fourth, with Zalenski lining up right behind in fifth. Basen would restart in 10th, opting for two tires on pit road, and Kirwan would restart in 18th, going for the four tire call. It was truly all over the place.

Like Indianapolis, the race devolved into restart after restart. White maintained as long as he could, but once the race went into eNASCAR Overtime, his chances were dwindling even further. By the second-to-last restart, Basen had been wrecked out and was out of the equation. White still led over Conklin, Zalenski, and Ryan Luza (fgrAccel eRacing) who was also on White’s strategy. Kirwan was up to eighth, and continued to climb through the field until the checkers.

Setting up for the third and final overtime, Zalenski managed to take control from White as Kirwan moved up into fourth. Zalenski timed it perfectly. At the line, Kirwan just edged Conklin for second. White wound up falling to finish in eighth. Basen’s career day would result in a 33rd place finish.

WBe BRACKET CHALLENGE RESULT FOLLOWING ROUND #2 | NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY

All of the Steven Wilson brackets are busted after last night’s events. Both of the William Byron eSports drivers—Tucker Minter by means of defeating Seth DeMerchant and Christopher Hill by outlasting Nate Stewart—have made it to the Quarterfinals. Casey Kirwan will go up against Quentin Warman at Richmond, while Parker White takes on Minter, Hill goes up against Shawn Conklin, and Femi Olatunbosun faces Connor Yeroschak.

POINTS SITUATION LEAVING INDIANAPOLIS

With two wins and more than 90 points over 21st, Steven Wilson, despite the horrible night, is the first driver officially locked into the 2026 eNASCAR Playoffs. He’s not the No. 1 seed anymore, however, as Zalenski’s third win puts him into that position over Wilson’s two victories. The two currently share the same amount of Playoff Points, with Wilson winning the first Segment of the season. Parker White and Garrett Lowe (BS+COMPETITION) are the other two winners all but locked into the Playoffs with Wilson and Bobby Zalenski.

From there, there will be at least four spots on points, and there could be up to six if there are no new winners through the rest of the season. Tucker Minter would definitely like to be in the winner’s club, but he’s the best on points, 37 above the cut with two races to go. Wyatt Tinsley (Kansas City Pioneers) has had a quiet but strong return to competition, sitting second of those in on points, with Vicente Salas, Shawn Conklin, Connor Yeroschak (Letarte eSports) and Casey Kirwan currently sitting in those Playoff spots. Femi Olatunbosun is the first man out, just six points behind Kirwan. A win from any driver below that, and inside the top-20 by the end of the Regular Season, could shift that line to Yeroschak, or to Conklin.

Spire Motorsports, with Wilson and Olatunbosun, continue to lead the way, but the Kansas City Pioneers duo of Tinsley and Kirwan are closing in, now just 32 points behind with six races to go. William Byron eSports, with Minter and Christopher Hill, also are in the hunt in third, 37 points back. Conklin is in the Playoffs and leading the Rookie of the Year battle by a full race now over TC Esports’ Matthew Morton. As for the Segment, just take the Nashville results for now, but things could definitely shake up heavily with a short track and superspeedway to close out the mini season.

NEXT RACE: SEGMENT 3 CONTINUES INTO RICHMOND

Following Nashville, the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Championship Series will race next at Richmond Raceway next Tuesday night. Only two races will remain to secure a place in the 2026 eNASCAR Playoffs, and the penultimate battle will take place utilizing the Short Track format, which offers the most points on the season due to the Heat races.

Last season, Steven Wilson held off the likes of Zack Novak, Parker White, Vicente Salas, and Donovan Strauss for what was his third win on the 2025 schedule.

The action from Richmond starts on August 4th with the Countdown to Green pre-race show at 7:45 p.m. ET.
