Daley Keeps on Truckin’

Week Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (fixed setup) took 1,562 online racers into Arizona for a visit to the Phoenix International Raceway.  Stacked up against a large number of racers, it proved to be no challenge to Byron Daley (New York) as he took home the most championship points for the week.

Week Two’s high Strength of Field was won by Daley, who took the checkered flag 0.492 seconds over second place Derek Cash (Midwest).  William R Harris (Plains) ended the race in the third position 0.795 seconds back.  Ross Tatum (Virginias) and Malik Ray (Carolina) filled the remaining positions in the top five.

Daley’s victory enabled him to earn the most championship points for the week with 264.  Second place for the week went to NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Matt DiBenedetto (Carolina) who scored 251 points in his one start.  Josh Berry (Mid-South) and Kevin King (California) ended their weeks with 247 points each.  Malik Ray finished off the week in the fifth postion.

With all of the success he enjoyed had this week, I felt it would be great to get a glimpse into why Daley feels he did well and what makes racing in the NiCCS (fixed setup) fun:

“First let me say that the fixed setup provided for PIR made for a challenging and fun week of fixed racing,” he said.  “I personally always enjoy when iRacing provides us with setups that keep us on our toes instead of heading for the wall every lap.  The combo of the track and setup made for great racing and it makes me wish we ran more short tracks during the season.  Hopefully I can put some more great weeks together to try and run for this championship.”

With his success at PIR, Daley jumped into the season standings lead over Berry by a slim margin of six points.  Jason Jacoby (Georgia) sits third in the standings after two weeks of racing.  Fourth-placed Derek Cash (Midwest) is 50 points back, and rounding-out the top five is Jordan Hightower (Mid-South).

Ohio native Kenny Humpe set the qualifying chart ablaze as he put down the only lap in the 27.2 second bracket (27.294 to be exact).  Justin Douglas (Northwest) was the second fastest qualifier turning in a time of 27.353 seconds.  NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series competitor Jarl Teien (Scandinavia) ended Week Three in the third position with a time of 27.369 seconds.  Fourth place on the week went to NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship competitor Kevin King with a time of 27.379 seconds.  The final spot in the top five went to Jacoby who ended the week with a time of 27.390 seconds.

The combination of a fun track and a “racey” set-up drew more than 1,500 iRacers to PIR.
