Nearly 1000 sim racers flocked to the Valley of the Sun for Week Two of the NiCCS (Open Setup)

Week Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (Open Setup) took the drivers to the Valley of the Sun and Phoenix International Raceway located in Avondale, Arizona for some high speed short track online racing.  Although some would consider Aleksi Elomaa (Finland) a road racer by trade, he is also quite the talent on the ovals.  That talent would be shown as he earned the most championship points for the week at one of the more difficult tracks on the NASCAR circuit.

941 sim racers competed in an official race during Week Two, but out of that large number, only one could claim victory in the week’s highest Strength of Field race.  That person was Ohio native Kenny Humpe who won the 3144 SoF in dominating fashion leading 84 of the race’s 90 laps.  Keith Elliott (Western Canada) finished in the second position, 0.342 seconds behind.  Jimmy Helie (Eastern Canada) continued a Canadian trend finishing in the third position, 1.207 seconds behind race winner Humpe.  Phil Brown (Mid-South) finished in the fourth position and rounding-out the top five was Bentley Glaser (Midwest)

Although Elomaa did not win the week’s high SoF race, he was able to earn the most championship points with 192 due to second place Humpe making 14 starts and collecting 188 points.  New York sim racer Liam Lambert finished off the week in the third position with 185 points.  Phil Brown and Keith Elliott ended their week in the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Humpe is a man on a mission in Season Four.  He currently sits atop the season standings after two weeks of racing with a total of 387 championship points, just 27 ahead of second place Jukka Savolainen (Finland).  Magnus LaShomb (Plains) sits third in the standings with a total of 357 points (-31) followed by Phil Brown (-36) and Corey A Wolf (New York) (-41) who filled the remaining spots in the top five after two weeks of action.

Elomaa wasn’t the only fleet Finn at Phoenix.  Jukka Savolainen showed a clean pair of heels to his fellow NiCCS competitors, taking five wins in six starts.

To go along with Humpe’s lead in the season standings as well as the week’s high SoF win, he added another stat to his impressive week.  He was also the fastest qualifier, making his way around the 1-mile oval in 27.161 seconds.  Second place for the week was held down by Kollin Keister (Atlantic) who turned a fast time of 27.243 seconds.  South Carolina native Justin Brooks finished off the week in the third position with a time of 27.269 seconds.  Chris Crosby (Carolina) was the fourth overall qualifier and rounding out the top five was Trent Ringler (Indiana).
