eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series Race Preview: Atlanta

The eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series returns on Tuesday night with race #3 of the 2024 season at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

40 of the top-ranked eNASCAR drivers are set to take on the high banked, 1.54-mile oval for the 12th time in series history. Past winners at the track include Matt Bussa and Ray Alfalla, but the only driver to win in the Next Gen era is two-time defending race winner Steven Wilson. He’s also the only driver to date to have won on the older surface as well as the new superspeedway-style track.

Race coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET at eNASCAR.com/live and across iRacing social media channels. Tune in 30 minutes earlier to catch the Countdown to Green at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Last Race: Two weeks ago, Las Vegas hosted the second round of the season, the first intermediate track for the series. Wilson (M80) was stout, winning practice, qualifying, and the opening two-thirds of the race. The way the cautions flew, however, saw fuel saving strategies arise. Nick Ottinger (William Byron eSports) and Cody Byus (Pittsburgh Knights) were able to put themselves in position to win on the final lap as a result. However, the two tangled, and that allowed Keegan Leahy (23XI) to sneak by and score his first win of the new season.

Last Year: The 2023 visit to Atlanta Motor Speedway was the first on the new configuration. With pack racing similar to Daytona and Talladega, it was anyone’s guess as to who would score the victory. On the final restart, Wilson was able to take control, holding off both Kollin Keister and Michael Guest at the line for his only victory of his championship-winning 2023 season.

Track Facts: Atlanta Motor Speedway has been a staple of the NASCAR Cup Series calendar ever since it opened in 1960. Originally a 1.5 mile true oval, the track got a redesign in 1997 to make it a quad-oval that more closely resembled its Speedway Motorsports sister tracks at Charlotte and Texas. The track was reconfigured once again for the 2022 season with the help of iRacing, producing a more superspeedway-like layout with narrower corners that have 24 degrees of banking.

Next Race: Following Atlanta, the final race of the first segment takes place at Richmond Raceway, the fourth race of the 2024 eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series season on March 26. Richmond will be the first short track race of the year, and the first opportunity to score five segment playoff points for whoever finishes at the top of the standings.
