Hawkeye Steven Wilson claims second eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series win-in-a-row at Iowa
June 18th, 2025 by Justin Melillo
Only one eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series driver has ever won a points-paying race at Iowa Speedway in series history. After it all ended on Tuesday night in virtual Newton, that statement stayed true as the Iowa Hawkeye himself, Spire Motorsports’ Steven Wilson, wound up in victory lane for the fifth time in the 2025 season, and for the 14th time in his career through 82 starts.
Wilson only managed to set the 11th best time in qualifying. With a pair of Heat races to set the grid, Wilson only managed to finish fourth in Heat #1, resulting in his starting spot for the Feature race to be seventh. Despite not being a factor in the opening half of the race, Wilson’s ability to stay out long enough for a caution to fly set him up for potential victory in the second half of the feature. With fresher tires later, Wilson caught and passed ERA eSports’ Michael Cosey Jr with 17 laps to go and never looked back.
“Hell yeah, this is awesome,” Wilson exclaimed post-race. “Two-for-two in my home state, and it’s my first race not in Iowa anymore. Still winning here at home, which is always cool. Still a Hawkeye state, still undefeated. That was really cool being able to run through the field on tires. I made some three-wide moves that were pretty bold, but I knew I had to beat Novak through the traffic to win that race.”
THE STEVEN WILSON DOMINATION TOUR CONTINUES AT IOWA!

Cosey Jr, despite leading 61 of the 90 laps in the Feature, despite his dominant showing in the opening Heat, and despite taking the cycle lead back from the second Heat winner, Kanaan Esports’ Vicente Salas, after waiting to pit through the cycle, he could not prevent the inevitable that has been Steven Wilson in victory lane this season. With the older tires to end the night, Cosey Jr slipped back to finish 10th.
Another driver hoping to capitalize was Channel 199 Sim Racing’s Zack Novak, who opted to stay out long on the opening stint, which ultimately benefitted him having fresh tires for the closing laps. Novak restarted second for the final time, but was not able to get to Wilson’s bumper at the end.
William Byron eSports’ Tucker Minter, a three-time winner on the season and the points leader entering Iowa, was relegated to a 38th place finish after getting collected in the first caution of the night. Minter slips from first to third in the overall points, 40 now behind Wilson with four races until the Playoff push in mid-August. In terms of playoff points earned, Wilson now has 30 points stored in comparison to Minter’s 15.
THE EVENT
With Iowa Speedway’s length at 7/8-miles, the eNASCAR Short Track rules were in effect on Tuesday night. With that, 50 points were on the line as opposed to the normal 40, with two Heat races setting the field for the Feature, while also scoring points for the top-10 finishers.
Qualifying saw Michael Cosey Jr score the pole position with fgrAccel’s Ryan Luza grabbing second place. Those two would lead their respective Heat grids to the green flag for 30 laps apiece, cautions also turned off.
The first Heat had contact off the start, with Jim Beaver eSports’ Nate Stewart getting sideways following contact with William Byron eSports’ Nick Ottinger. Atlassian Williams Sim Racing’s Donovan Strauss was also collected and opted to park early from the Heat, resulting in no points earned and a 39th place starting spot for the Feature.
In part thanks to the crazy checkup, Cosey Jr was able to gap the field, with Kansas City Pioneers’ Casey Kirwan, Zack Novak, and Steven Wilson trailing behind. Cosey Jr was able to claim the opening Heat as the second Heat gridded for the second 30-lap program of the evening.
While Luza led the field into Turn 1 for the second Heat, Vicente Salas jumped to the top spot by the end of the opening lap. Salas, also a Heat race winner at Richmond and Sprint race winner at Interlagos, still seeks his first main-race win of the 2025 season. After leading the entire way in the second Heat, it looked as though he would have a shot against Cosey Jr and the rest of the field.
On the start of the Feature race, Kirwan peered low on both Salas and Cosey Jr, but wasn’t able to make it stick as the field managed to get things sorted out. From there, Cosey Jr set sail.
The first 40 laps were relatively quiet, with the occasional slip up, but not worthy enough of a yellow from the middle to back of the field. With only 90 laps on the board, pit stops became an important factor of how the race would ultimately be won. Salas opted for the undercut, which essentially earned him the lead of the cycle for a few laps. However, when the majority of the field was down pit road, Cosey Jr had managed to slip back around Salas for what he and many had hoped would be the battle for the overall lead.
On Lap 56, disaster struck for many of the hopefuls. Logan Clampitt (eRacr) and Casey Kirwan made contact as the pit stop takers were maneuvering through the field. Clampitt’s car veered to the left, hit the tires on the inside wall, then came back into traffic to collect Tucker Minter, Daniel Faulkingham (Six Karma), and more.
This led to a mixed bag of strategies as the drivers who opted to stay out would have track position, but would also have a slight disadvantage to those able to take their first pit stop under the caution. Cosey Jr and Salas were among the drivers to stay out, but it didn’t take long for the drivers with new tires to fly through the order.
Wilson was the first through, with Novak and more following up towards the point. Caution after caution flew, each next caution a seeming detriment to those on the older tires having to face the restart roulette. Wilson took the lead from Cosey Jr with 17 laps remaining. Novak kept Wilson honest through each restart, but at the end of the day, it was Wilson back in eNASCAR victory lane for the fifth time in the 2025 season.

With his latest win, Steven Wilson takes control of the points lead over Zack Novak and Tucker Minter by 40 points or more. The win also places Wilson on the top of the Segment 3 standings, earning 47 points on the day after winning the Feature and finishing fourth in his Heat race.
Wilson’s team, Spire Motorsports, had a solid day in the standings besides scoring the victory, as Femi Olatunbosun wound up 21st in the final results. That was enough for the team to maintain the Team Standings lead. In the battle for the 2025 eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series rookie of the year, Blaze Crawford (Team Dillon Esports) managed to finish 19th, but it was Connor Yeroschak (Letarte eSports) who claimed rookie of the day with a seventh place effort, narrowing that gap to two points.
Up next in the 2025 eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series is Dover Motor Speedway in one week’s time. Last season, Steven Wilson managed to claim the win over Tucker Minter after a wild four-wide moment on the backstretch for the lead late in the going.
The 11th round on the calendar is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. ET for the Countdown to Green. Race coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET at eNASCAR.com/live and across iRacing social media channels.
