iRacing World of Outlaws Carquest Auto Parts Sprint Car Series Race Preview: Cedar Lake

The iRacing World of Outlaws Carquest Auto Parts Sprint Car Series season heads north to Wisconsin for tonight’s seventh round of the season, making its return to Cedar Lake Speedway with the tightest championship battle we’ve seen all season. Last Race: It was back-to-back wins for James Edens last Monday at Fairbury Speedway, as he took the lead early from polesitter Kenny Miller and never let go despite having to weather three restarts. Miller and Timothy Smith completed the podium, and Smith’s latest top five finish allowed him to steal the points lead from three-time champion Alex Bergeron by two points heading into Cedar Lake. The gap from Smith to Edens in fifth is now down to 34 points, less than half of what drivers earn for a win in the series.

Last Season: The inaugural race at Cedar Lake for iRacing’s highest level of sprint car competition saw one of its fastest drivers take top honors. Hayden Cardwell scored his first of two wins on the year (a feat he’s matched already this season) by dominating the entire 35-lap feature.

Track Info: The father-son duo of Elmer and Bob Cook founded Cedar Lake Speedway in 1957, and the track has been a mainstay of the Wisconsin racing scene for decades since. Originally flat, Cedar Lake’s 3/8 mile clay oval is now a high-banked track, and one that will host both the real-world World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and Late Models this summer; the sprint cars take on the Independence Day Spectacular on June 30-July 1, and the late models battle in the $50,000-to-win USA Nationals on August 4-5.

Coming Up: The iRacing World of Outlaws Carquest Sprint Car Series season rolls on next Monday with a trip to Knoxville Raceway. Home of the iconic Knoxville Nationals in the real world, last year’s virtual event went to Bergeron, who held off Braden Eyler and Tyler Schell to take the checkered flag.
