Laughton Lays It On ‘Em at Dover

The stars of the NASCAR iRacing Class C Series (NiCCS) trucked into Delaware last week for seven days of online racing at the track nicknamed the “Monster Mile.” Dover International Raceway played host to Round Four on the schedule and proved popular with the drivers as 1112 of them came out to race in the series’ inaugural visit to the track. Many big sim racing names gave the underdogs a run for their money and in the end it was a NASCAR iRacing Series World Championship pilot showing them how to dance with the Monster at the close of the week.

Josh Laughton was one of the drivers lined-up to take the initial race journey around the one-mile concrete oval as he entered the first race of the week. That raced proved to be his best of two starts and would count for 232 points towards the week that was at Dover. In that first race, rated with 3717 strength of field (SoF) points, he bested truck veterans Brandon Buchberger and Jody Green on the podium. Buchberger’s second place finish in this race would prove strong enough to capture second place for the week. Laughton took part in another race three days later and would find himself once again in victory lane ahead of former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Dover winner Scott Speed and Landon Harrison.

Third overall for the week went to Atlantic Club’s Ronald Quesenberry. Quesenberry rode his truck to victory in the second race of the week on Tuesday over William Lark and Alan Gray in a 3381 SoF show. Many high rated iRacers such as Kile Gottula and Parker Hammons found themselves at the bottom of this race, losing as much as 100 iRating points off their scores!

Speed came home fourth on the week as the Charlotte resident made six starts over the seven days of competition. His second race of the week rewarded him with a second place finish behind Justin Brooks while his fourth foray of the week landed him in victory lane, beating Carson McClelland and Joe “The Show” Reuter to the stripe. Speed would finish his week third to Jody Green and Rod Funston on the second last night of racing.

Completing the top five overall at Dover was Taylor Webb. Webb made five starts and came home the victor in two. In the first win he bested Chad Pruitt and Gray while the second win saw him triumph over Funston and AJ Wood.

133 drivers were victorious over the week at Dover with 48 of those winning at least twice over the seven days. Funston led all drivers with wins as the Division Four driver topped the field he was apart of fourteen times in thirty starts. That thirty start number was also good enough for second on the most starts list for the week behind Alan Jones. Jones recorded six wins on the week, the same amount by early point leader Tyler Hudson and Trey W Strickland.

Parker Hammons Racing was fast at Dover in single truck qualifying as four of the top five times were drivers from that stable. Hammons himself posted the fast time with a 23.575 second lap. David Krikorian, Brooks and Allen Lewis found themselves third through fifth behind team leader Hammons and second place driver Cody Kutzner. Those five drivers were the only ones to crack the 23.6 second barrier throughout the week.

With the action completed on the high banks of Dover, Timmy Hill showe as the top driver after four weeks of action. He has a forty-nine point advantage on Parker Hammons. Richmond winner Speed is third with just sixty-nine points less than Hill’s mark of 761. Fuller and Buchberger complete the top five when it comes to the overall standings.

Brad Ferrell plays chase to Cody Hackl in Division Two after Dover. Eleven points is the gap there while in the third division it is twenty markers between Dean Heck and Cameron Higgins. Lark holds a wide margin in Division Four with Jay Adair holding court over Kelvin Masur in Division Five. Harold James is the leader in Division Six over Justin Labonte by fifty points. Michael Atkins Jr. continues to lead in Division Seven while Bill Schoonover has built a comfortable margin after four weeks. A dozen markers separate David Trogdon and Greg Venable after Dover with the final division being the closest as three points sets apart Jeff Sarson and Keith Bouchard. Ken Vazquez is only eight points away from Sarson’s mark.

Jared Crawford proved to be the man to beat when it came to ten lap Time Trials at Dover. The Michigan driver finished ahead of Jason Vanatta, Krikorian, Scott Granberg and Michael Tasillo overall in the top five. Of note, Tasillo was the best of drivers from Division Two while Krikorian is listed as a Division Three Time Trial competitor for 2011 Season One.

When it comes to the overall Time Trial standings it is Vannatta besting Harris by fifteen points. Chad Pingel, David Trogdon and Scott Wallace complete the top five. Of note, Harris is the Division Two leader and Pingel is the front runner in Division Three. Divisions Four through Ten are led by Walter Holmes, Jeff York, Chuck Runyan, Trenton Moriarity, Magnus Ahlqvist, Joerg Leipold and Mike Larsen.

This week the trucks head to the popular Michigan International Speedway. In Week Nine of 2010 Season Four, 1533 drivers took part in the week with Thomas Hazard coming out on top. Jason Burstein, Lark and Cody Evanson won seven races a piece which was a week high. Who will come out on to in the fifth week of competition in 2011 Season One?
