Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup Race Preview: Monza

The third season of the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup on iRacing draws to a close on Saturday at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, the series’ traditional closing venue and one of Europe’s most iconic road courses. The season finale will not only see the 2021 series champion officially crowned, it’ll also confirm which 20 drivers will retain their licenses for the 2022 campaign.

Coming off of yet another victory at Circuit de la Sarthe two weekends ago, Josh Rogers’ status as this year’s champion is no longer mathematically in doubt. The Australian driver and inaugural series champion bounced back from a frustrating 2020 campaign to the tune of four victories in the first nine races, and an even 600 points coming into the finale. Only Mitchell deJong is within 200 points of him, with defending series champion Sebastian Job third and Kevin Ellis Jr., winner of the season opener from Interlagos, fourth. That quartet has split all nine feature race wins thus far in 2021.

With the top drivers firmly settled, then, the attention really turns to the 20^th place cutoff for a 2022 series license. Moreno Sirica currently holds the bubble spot at 131 points, eight ahead of David Williams, 22 up on Salva Talens and Daniel Lafuente, and 25 ahead of Yohann Harth. Those four are the most likely to be able to bounce Sirica from the final qualifying spot for next season with strong finishes at Monza, though Williams’ 14^th place finish here last year was the best of the group.

Monza is one of just a handful of tracks to have been on every Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup calendar, joining Spa and Silverstone (although the Nurburgring has been on each schedule, the Nordschleife layout only debuted last year). Last year’s Monza finale went to Graham Carroll, with Job and Tommy Ostgaard completing the feature podium, while Maximilian Benecke, Job, and Jarrad Filsell were the inaugural podium finishers.

As always, Saturday’s Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup race will be preceded by an All-Star Race featuring major influencers and real-world drivers. Emily “Emree” Jones and Dan Suzuki were the race winners last time out at Le Mans, as six different drivers took podium finishes. The All-Star Race action kicks off at 2PM ET, with the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup immediately following at 3PM ET.
