Season Four 2009 has drawn to a close and for a number of online racing drivers there is a welcome opportunity to draw breath after some nail-biting climaxes to the season.

The first to catch the eye is Division Seven in the IndyCar Series. This saw JD Babbitt from the Plains Club beat International Club driver Pawel Dabrowski by just two points, with Babbitt beating Dabrowski in the final race week at Homestead. Roger Gallagher (Eastern Canada) was third.

Time trials

The competition was close in Indy car racing and time trials.

Staying with the Indy cars, things were even closer in the overall Time Trial series, with Benelux driver Jeffrey Rietvield tying with Richard Walker from England on 793 points each. Aubry Magill form the Celtic Club rounded-up the West Europe domination of this championship in third.

In the Impala Class B championship the photo finish was in Division Six. New York driver Gary Ayers pipped DE-AT-CH Club driver Birger Venzmer by just five points. Nryan Barns (Northwest) took third.

The Scandinavian Club locked-out the podium in the iRacing Spec Racer Ford Time Trial Challenge, with Mika Korkeamäki winning from Jari Ylimainen and Tom Wikgren. Just 16 points covered the three drivers.

Closer still, just seven points separated Eastern Canada driver Mathieu Labbé from DE-AT-CH Club driver Richard Hasenhuetl in Division Three in the Skip Barber Race Series. Australia Club driver Christopher Roope was third.

Saving the closest until last, Scandinavian drivers Kimmo Tuisku and Teppo Savela could only be separated by a single point after twelve weeks of racing in Division Three of the Classic Lotus Grand Prix. Savela topped the points table at Watkins Glen with Tuisku in sixth but it wasn’t quite enough to take the championship.

Congratulations to the many winners and podiums throughout all of the iRacing series divisions. The drivers involved in these championship battles to the wire can take a breather – until it all starts up again with Season One 2010!
