Thompson Tops Bristol’s Best

Though the record books will show former NASCAR iRacing.com Class C (NiCCS) champion Tyler Hudson as the winner of the week at the Bristol Motor Speedway, it was Georgia sim racer Justin Thompson who stole the show with an impressive eight wins in eleven races at the half-mile. Thompson scored two wins higher than the 208 point total put-up by Hudson, but due to the point structure for the series (with the best finishes being averaged to determine a point total), Thompson finished the week with 187 points.

The top split of the week saw Hudson obtain his 208 point total for the week. The race featured six cautions and saw Thompson lead 70 laps from the fourth place starting position en route to victory. Starting from pole, Hudson finished second with Dylan Duval coming home in third. Duval, along with Sam Edwards and Bentley Glaser were the only three drivers to visit Victory Lane in races Thompson failed to win. Completing the top five in the 3573 sof race was Michael Guest and Tray Witherspoon. Guest would make five starts over the week, finishing the week with 182 points – good enough for fifth place overall for the third week of racing.

More than 1200 iRacers competed at Thunder Valley in Week 3 of the NiCCS.

Paul Kusheba also had a productive visit to Thunder Valley, scoring four wins in five starts in Week Three. His biggest triumph came in a 3115 sof race in which he topped a 17 truck field by leading 16 laps en route to the victory. Michael W Brown was second in the 11 caution affair with Michael Keeton, Scott Latimer and AJ Browning completing the top five. Justin Brooks led 65 laps from the pole but had to settle for sixth. Kusheba gained 194 points for his effort but when his point total was calculated with extra starts factored in, he came home with 184 points.

Fourth place for the week out of over 1,200 drivers belonged to Kevin McCann. McCann took home the victory in Friday’s 2931 sof race over Kevin Jones, Chris D Miller, Jeffrey Earnhart and Brian Casey. McCann led 43 laps after starting fifth on the 17 truck grid. Ashley Miller led 64 laps from the pole, the most of any in the 11 caution race but failed to finish the 120 lap event. For his victory, the Carolina Club driver scored 183 points.

Hudson completed the quickest lap in qualifying with a 15.239 second lap around the high banks. Miles Crabbe, Duval, Brooks and Brandon Barke were the top five out of 504 drivers in the hot lap sessions. Karl Boyd competed in the most races of the week, answering the call to the green 35 times and completing 3,082 competitive laps over seven days. Phillip Feger shared the spotlight with Thompson when it comes to drivers who record the most wins for the week with eight, with 132 other drivers recording at least one win during the week. Aliaksei Smolski recorded the win in the Time Trial competition over Florian Kirchhofer, Harold Heater2, Ryan Luza and Joona Karimaa at Bristol.

Brooks leads the NiCCS field after three complete weeks of racing. Brooks’ lead is just 32 points over Brandon Buchberger with Guest, Thomas D Smith and Jesse James completing the top five. In fact, Division Two leader Charles Hylton is just 70 points out of the overall lead in the series. Tyler Hughes, Mark Bratcher, Cesc Riu, Ben Atcher, James Kanor, Cory Van Driessche, Doug Easterday and Herve Heydt lead Division Three through Ten early in this season.
