Week Seven brought the iRacing.com Skip Barber Series to Circuit-Zolder.  Located in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, the ten turn 2.492 mile (4.011 km) circuit includes a few sweeping and fast turns broken apart by three tight chicanes and a hairpin. The layout is loved by some and hated by others but, the love/hate relationship resulted in 663 drivers competing in a race with 303 placing a qualifying lap and 127 completing a time trial throughout the week.

Zolder attracted more than 650 entries for Week Seven of the Skip Barber Series.

Kevin Vaughn (Texas) led the way in the week’s standings, scoring 200 points in the 3276 SOF race in which he landed the pole position, led every lap, and scored the victory by four seconds.  After the event we had the chance to catch up with Kevin, and he commented on his race.

“I had a pretty good pace early on compared to most of my competition after spending a lot of time racing at Zolder in the Star Mazda the week before,” he explained. “I was pretty lucky in joining the highest SOF race on Saturday and starting on pole. I managed to break away from Paul Ezerski early on and keep a fast enough pace to take the win. It was great getting the win and reaching 200 points for the first time ever.”

Benjamin Smith (Australia/NZ) was next in the week’s standings, scoring 192 points in the 3117 SOF race in which he also scored the pole position, led every lap and scored the victory by just over four seconds.  Benjamin also competed in three other online races throughout the week at Zolder, but the SOF was not as high and therefore, he didn’t score as many points.

Norbert Sulzer (1) raced just once at Zolder, but he made it count — leading from start to finish. Here he leads a pack headed by Carlos Jimenez (4).

Norbert Sulzer (DE-AT-CH) was third in the week’s standings, scoring 190 points in his 3084 SOF race earlier in the week.  Norbert started from pole position, led every lap and took the victory in dominating fashion by over 16 seconds.  This was Norbert’s only race of the week at Zolder.

The remainder of the top ten for Week 7 at Zolder include, Wojciech Swirydowicz (Celtic), Carlos Jimenez (Iberia), Tommaso Carla (Italy), Étienne Léger (Eastern Canada), Samuel de la Fuente (Iberia), Paul Ezerski (Midwest), and Luca Zanetti (Italy).

The overall standings now show Luca Zanetti with 1214 points as the leader, with Kevin Vaughn, Ramon Sprecher, Wojciech Rabsztyn, and Samuel de la Fuente close behind.  Ramon and Samuel both have one less scored week, which will mislead the standings until drops come into play during week 9.

Next week we will head to Oran Raceway Park (Narellan, New South Wales Australia) for Week 8 of the iRacing.com Skip Barber Series.  Judging by the track map, this circuit offers more fast and sweeping corners than we witnessed this week at Zolder.  The track is also nearly half the length of Zolder at 1.62 miles (2.61 km) so we will see short lap times, but more laps completed per race to make the two races similar in length.
