2024 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup Race Preview: Championship Finale at Monza

The 2024 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup season concludes at the Temple of Speed on Saturday. Four races are scheduled at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, two for the Supercup and two for the preceding All-Stars series, where the respective championship battles are set to wrap up.

Live streaming of the events begins on Saturday, April 6th, at 18:00 GMT (2PM ET) via Porsche’s channels on YouTube and Twitch with the All-Star series up first, taking on the circuit in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992). The pros, in their usual Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) machines, take off one hour afterwards, at 19:00 GMT (3PM ET).

Championship Outlooks: This week’s Supercup battle will feature two Features. Both races are scheduled for 14 laps, and each will pay full Feature points throughout the field. The top eight invert will still happen in between races, but a driver can score a maximum of 110 points this week as opposed to the normal 85. 

Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing’s Sebastian Job leads the standings with 413 points. Job has collected five wins this season, including two Sprint race wins, at Hockenheim and Le Mans, and three Feature wins, at Daytona, Hockenheim, and the Red Bull Ring. The only possible driver who can beat him is Team Redline’s Diogo Pinto, 38 points behind Job. Pinto has yet to win this season, but his consistency has been impeccable, giving him a chance to score his second title without even needing a win. Both drivers will be searching for their second title, Job having won in 2020 and Pinto in 2022. 

The All-Stars will also feature a battle for the title among last year’s champion, Casey Kirwan, and perennial standout Pablo “The Pulpo” Lopez. They’re separated by 15 points with a possible 55 points up for grabs. Tyson “Quirkitized” Meier also has an outside chance, 43 points behind Kirwan, but would need a lot to happen to be able to claim his second career title.

Last Race: We’re only a week removed from the penultimate Supercup fight from the Imola Circuit, three hours to the southeast. More than a dozen drivers still had a mathematical shot at the championship entering, but after another solid performance from both Job and Pinto, that number dwindled to just those two. Team Redline’s Sam Kuitert scored the TAG Heuer Pole Award and the Sprint race victory, the first of his career. In the Feature, Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing’s Cooper Webster inverted to the lead and stayed there for his second career win.

Last Season: Four drivers entered Monza in 2023 with a shot at the title, but by the end of the Sprint race, Altus Esports’ Jordan Caruso claimed the crown. Caruso nearly collected his trophy a race earlier, at Le Mans, but late race contact with Job extended the battle an extra race. Job, VRS Coanda’s Zac Campbell, and Stormforce Racing’s Alejandro Sanchez also had a mathematical chance entering the race, but each suffered their own misfortunes as Caruso went on to take the Sprint win. Gustavo Ariel capped off the season with the final Feature win.

Track Facts: For more than a century, Autodromo Nazionale Monza has hosted major national and international racing events as the oldest purpose-built racing circuit in Europe. The Italian road course currently features a 3.6-mile, 11-turn primary layout, having added multiple chicanes to some of its long straightaways over the years to keep speeds safe. Monza has hosted almost every Italian Grand Prix since 1949, with 1980 the lone exception.
