2024 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup Race Preview: Hockenheim

The Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup returns on Saturday for the second round of the 2024 season, this time at the Hockenheimring Baden-Wurttemberg. After a thrilling opening round at Daytona for both the 30 top-rated Supercup regulars as well as the decorated All-Star lineup, both Sebastian Job and Casey Kirwan will be looking to continue their respective hot starts to the year at the historic German venue.

Live streaming of the events begin on Saturday at 18:00 GMT (1PM ET) via Porsche’s channels on YouTube and Twitch with the All-Star series up first. The pros will take off one hour afterwards, at 19:00 GMT (2PM ET).

Last Race: A popular sim racing site over the last few weeks, Daytona saw a new winner in the sprint in Luke McKeown alongside an otherwise dominant performance by Sebastian Job, who won the feature. Having teammates was key in both races, but the pack would have to settle for second as McKeown pulled an insurmountable gap in the first race. McKeown’s ART teammate Yohann Harth didn’t have the same luxury in the feature as Job had committed help from both Diogo Pinto and Chris Lulham, allowing for the lead change at halfway and the eventual win.

Last Season: In the previous two seasons, Hockenheim has been the go-to opening race. This year, it sits second on the calendar to Daytona. Teams like VRS Coanda Esports and Team Redline come out of the gates swinging regardless of the venue, with the two teams responsible for five of the last six combined Sprint or Feature wins to open the last three seasons. Last year, Pinto took the Hockenheim Sprint win while Campbell captured the Feature victory.

Track Facts: Hockenheimring Baden-Wurttemberg boasts nearly a full century of racing history, ranging from the German Grand Prix to countless other sports car, open-wheel, and even motorcycle events. Altered dramatically over the years, the current layout is its shortest, with the Grand Prix circuit limited to 2.842 miles despite originating as a seven-mile course in the 1930s and spending most of its history at more than four miles long. iRacing’s version of Hockenheim features 10 layouts, including four Porsche Experience Center circuits in the infield that put driver ability and vehicle handling alike to the test.

Next Up: Concluding three straight race weekends to open the 2024 season, the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup and accompanying All-Star series will take on the famed Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans for Round 3. Job is the defending sprint race winner, while Harth will be looking to recapture the magic of his feature victory from a season ago. The All-Stars will once again compete using the Porsche 963 GTP.

Those events are scheduled for Saturday, February 17th, and will be live starting at 18:00 GMT (1PM ET) via Porsche’s channels on YouTube and Twitch with All-Stars on tap first. The Supercup races will take off one hour afterwards, at 19:00 GMT (2PM ET).
