2024 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup Race Preview: Red Bull Ring

The Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup returns for the fifth round of the 2024 season this weekend at the Red Bull Ring. On Saturday, 30 of the highest-rated sports car iRacers in the world will take on the 2.86-mile Austrian venue formerly known as the Österreichring. The event format returns to the normal Sprint and Feature race settings.

Live streaming of the events begins on Saturday at 18:00 GMT (2PM ET) via Porsche’s channels on YouTube and Twitch with the All-Star series up first. The pros will take off one hour afterwards, at 19:00 GMT (3PM ET).

Last Race: Two weeks ago, the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup took on Watkins Glen on the Classic layout for the first ever Mid-Season Tournament. The field was split into five heat races of up to six cars following qualifying, the TAG Heuer Pole Award falling to Luke McKeown. McKeown, Alejandro Sánchez, Zac Campbell, Mathias Stokbæk Jensen, and Diogo Pinto were victorious in their Heat races and advanced to the Main race. Only 15 drivers started the Main, the other 14 drivers eliminated after the Consolation race. In the Feature, Sánchez was victorious, winning his first race of the season over McKeown and Campbell.

Last Season: Now a staple on the PESC schedule, the Red Bull Ring returns this year for the third straight season of top level competition. In the 2023 iteration, in what fans may consider to be the most competitive race of that 2023 campaign, it was Jordan Caruso scoring the victory in the Sprint race over Diogo Pinto. In the Feature, it was Gustavo Ariel scoring the win in dramatic fashion over Alejandro Sánchez and Pinto after a spirited battle in the late stages.

Track Facts: Formerly known as both the Österreichring and the A1-Ring, Austria’s Red Bull Ring originally opened in 1969, but its current form as a 10-turn, 2.683-mile course dates back to 2008 when the track was reconstructed. The venue hosts multiple top-level motorsport events, including the Austrian Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar.

Next Up: The 2024 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup season only has two more contests after Austria, the penultimate coming at a returning track to the schedule, the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, or Imola for shot. The battle commences on Saturday, March 30th, starting at 18:00 GMT (2PM ET) via Porsche’s channels on YouTube and Twitch with All-Stars on tap first. The Supercup races will take off one hour afterwards, at 19:00 GMT (3PM ET).
