RACE NIGHT FORMAT
Every one of the six races this season will feature two races, each set for a timed amount of 15 minutes, and all competitors utilizing fixed setups.
While all 20 drivers needed to set their fastest times in the official Time Attack leading up to tonight, these pair of races will still be set by one more lone qualifying lap for the opening event. To set the second race grid of the night, the results from the first race will be how that is determined.
Every race offers up to 35 points to the winner, with that making a perfect night a 70 point day in winning both races. The Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series Champion will be determined by the total number of points earned during the season, excluding the lowest two individual race scores which will be deducted to determine the final points. The lowest individual race scores include zeros, disqualifications, and non-participated-in races.
LAST RACE
After a disappointing end result at Lime Rock Park last month, Matt Caruana was back with a vengeance at VIRginia International Raceway’s North Course two weeks ago. Caruana had a nearly perfect day, winning the pole position, claiming the opening race, and winning the second race, leading every lap on the day. There was only one point where he wasn’t leading—with three laps to go in the second race, Aaron Vazquezz was able to take the preferred line and the lead, but only for a moment. Caruana was able to get back around and lead the rest of the way.

LAST TIME AT WGI
Watkins Glen makes its return to the schedule for the first time since the 2022 season, over three years ago. On that day, two new winners of the series were championed—Nicolas Mateo and Matt Adams—following the dual races. The first race on that day was a doozy, with only 11 drivers completing all nine laps. The drivers were able to clean it up in the second race, however, with 18 of the 20 drivers taking the checkered flag.
TRACK FACTS
Located in upstate New York, Watkins Glen International opened up in 1956. The current iterations of the track, both long and short, have been in play since 1992, with both layouts including the “Inner Loop”, or bus-stop chicane. The short course is the one used on the NASCAR calendar, while the long course features “The Boot” and adds on another mile and four corners to navigate. The Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series will use the long course with both the Inner Loop and Boot to navigate.
NEXT RACE
Following the events at Watkins Glen, the Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series continues the 2025 season in two weeks at VIRginia International Raceway, making its second appearance on the schedule, but this time on the Full Course. This Hot Lap Qualifier is active from Friday, August 15th at 12 a.m. ET to Sunday, August 17th at 11:59 p.m. ET. The entry fee for each Hot Lap Qualifier is $20, and the top 20 drivers on the Time Attack leaderboard will be invited to run each race. They’ll also get to take part in an open test with Skip Barber Racing School instructors on hand to provide feedback. The main event will run on Thursday, August 21st.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series is where future stars of real-world motorsport prove themselves in the virtual one. Using the iRacing Formula 4 machine, drivers take part in an open qualifier each week, and the top racers registered in the program are selected to compete on Thursday nights.
The top three point scorers at season’s end will receive a 3 Day Racing School and compete in a shootout later this year for a 2026 Skip Barber Race Series seat. 1 Day Racing School certificates will be awarded to fourth and fifth in points, as well as the Hard Charger Award winner from each race, and all of the qualifiers for each race will earn a one-time $200 credit towards an SBRS course.
