Cash Converters Supercars Eseries: Down leads BJR one-two at Phillip Island, Kostecki hangs on in All Stars thriller

The Cash Converters Supercars Eseries took on the Phillip Island Circuit for this week’s sim racing pro and All Star events. Here’s a look at how it all went down:

Down leads BJR one-two at Phillip Island

Madison Down has won in the Cash Converters Supercars Eseries for the second time in as many weeks.

Down won the Pro Series Phillip Island race from pole ahead of Brad Jones Racing teammate Jake Burton.

Burton retained his points lead and was just 0.2s from victory.

Andrew Gilliam impressed to third for Matt Stone Racing, with Jordan Caruso fourth.

Jarrad Filsell salvaged fifth after a slow stop, with Dayne Warren encountering another tough race.

Warren started alongside Filsell and opted for an aggressive undercut when he pitted on lap 1.

The reigning champion returned in clean air and was third behind Down and Burton after their stops.

However, Warren began to fade on aged tyres and crossed the line sixth despite a spirited final lap by Cooper Webster.

Filsell also avoided penalty after an early run-in at the Hayshed with Jackson Souslin-Harlow.

Souslin-Harlow fired off and rejoined last in the train, but recovered to 12th.

Down and Burton pushed each other along and stopped in tandem on lap 7.

Filsell rejoined down the order after his lap 8 stop, but charged back through.

Gilliam and Caruso demoted Warren to fifth, which became sixth once Filsell got past.

Filsell had a half-spin at the final corner trying to clear Caruso for fourth.

At the front, it was close between the BJR teammates, with Down hanging on by 0.2s from Burton.

The 2022 Cash Converters Supercars Eseries will resume with a Bathurst enduro next Wednesday.

Kostecki hangs on in All Stars thriller

Brodie Kostecki has carried on his merry way in the Cash Converters Supercars Eseries with another win.

Kostecki won from pole in the All Stars race at Phillip Island.

However, he was made to work for the win, with teenager Reuben Goodall fighting all the way.

Goodall, racing for Matt Stone Racing, fought with Kostecki for the majority of the 15-lapper.

He was cleared for second after the late restart by Justin Ruggier, who was just 0.1s from victory.

It was a spirited fightback by Ruggier, who was turned on the opening lap by Andre Heimgartner.

Heimgartner was awarded a drive-through penalty over the incident, but recovered to sixth.

Matt McLean and Brad Vaughan rounded out the top five.

Heimgartner took his penalty on lap 3 and rejoined in 14th.

Goodall hounded Kostecki for the lead and stopped from second on lap 7.

It came after James Golding fired off while attacking the leaders, Goodall making a desperate attempt at the lead at Turn 4.

Kostecki rejoined on the following lap just ahead of Goodall, who took the lead.

However, Kostecki quickly regained track position before the Safety Car was deployed on lap 11.

It set up a dash to the flag, with Ruggier overhauling Goodall on the penultimate lap.

Jake Kostecki finished seventh, having spun on lap 1 avoiding the Ruggier-Heimgartner melee.

Thomas Maxwell, Jayden Ojeda and Jordan Boys rounded out the top 10.

The Cash Converters Supercars Eseries will resume with a Bathurst enduro next Wednesday.
