iRacing World of Outlaws Thrustmaster Sprint Car Series Race Preview: The Dirt Track at Charlotte

The 2023-24 iRacing World of Outlaws Thrustmaster Sprint Car Series season is down to one remaining race. As the series heads to The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Monday night, a championship is still up for grabs among three possible takers.

Two series sophomores have led the way for the majority of the season, but following last week’s penultimate battle at Eldora, Michigan’s Aiden Forster is in command by 21 points over his teammate, California’s Ryan Avila. Meanwhile, three-time series champion Alex Bergeron tied the record of five wins in a season last week, but sits third overall, 55 points behind with a slim mathematical chance.

Season finale action from The Dirt Track at Charlotte begins on January 29 at 9PM ET, and it will be live on both DIRTVision and iRacing’s social media channels.

Last Race: While Bergeron scored a season-leading fifth win to keep his hopes for a fourth title alive, the two Momentum Simsport teammates at the top switched places following 35 green flag laps at Eldora. Forster set the quick time and recovered from an early hiccup in the first heat to finish in third, scoring 30 more points than Avila, who struggled to finish in 14th. 

Last Season: Once again, The Dirt Track at Charlotte is set to crown a champion in the Sprint Car level. In the finale to the 2022-23 season, Tyler Schell managed to step up and take control from James Edens, taking the win and title as well by eight points over Bergeron.

Track Info: Located across the street from Charlotte Motor Speedway, The Dirt Track at Charlotte opened in 2000. The 2/5-mile clay oval has become the traditional season-ender for World of Outlaws and DIRTcar series of all types, from the World Finals for the premier levels to the World Short Track Championship the week before for everything from modifieds to sportsman classes.

Race Format: These races feature qualifying and heat racing to determine the 20 drivers that will compete in the main race. There will be four heat races of 10 laps each, where the top four will advance forward through to the main event. There will also be two 12-lap consolation races where the top two finishers in each will move on. In the 35-lap feature races, caution laps do not count.
