Kops’ Third Win; Paes’ Lead at iRacing Brasil

Race starts at Texas!

NASCAR Pro Series at iRacing Brasil had its ninth race on April 7th. Now, with only April 14th’s final race, Anderson Paes will come as the favorite driver to win the championship. With a 339 points lead, he has a minor advantage against Igor Kops, who has 327 points in second place. This means that, even if Kops can earn his fourth win, becoming the driver with most victories at this season, Paes would need to finish on the top 10 to grab the cup. But with so many kinds of bonus points, things could change. A participant of this series can receive bonus points by finishing the race, finishing without incidents, leading one or more laps, leading the most number of laps and winning. So if the sim-racer is smart and races with his head, he can still lack speed, but still earn some nice points for the championship.

This race, at Texas Motor Speedway, was dominated by Kops. He won, led the for 92 laps out of 130, had 0 incidents and started from the second place, losing the pole for JC Nóbrega, who also did the best lap of this race (28.238s at Lap 124). Paes started from the second row in third place, with Pedro Souza on his side in fourth.

Unlike Martinsville, the last race before Texas, this was a more fast paced and careful event, with only five cautions and 20 laps behind the pace car. With Texas being a 1.5 miles track, this was expected since the sim-racers had more room. But the first yellow would come early again, on the second lap. Diego Vazquez was riding on the outside lane coming out of Turn 4 and had himself on a bad spot behind Diego Resende. There was contact, Vazquez hit the wall and slid down to the inside line, finding Leonardo Pires and involving him in a bigger crash with Filemon Fábio, Duca Lamego and Marcos Resende. Pires was done for the day, and left the race.

Caique Ribeiro and Rodrigo Lellis had contact, causing one of the race’s five cautions.

The green flag waived again at Lap Seven with Nóbrega still leading and Paes holding second ahead of Kops and Marcos Bicca. Paes overtook Nóbrega at Lap 10, when the caution flags waved again as the result of a collision between Filemon Fábio and Marcelo Massa. Marcelo came out Turn Four with a loose car and was hit by Filemon, sending Marcelo to the pits for repairs.

The last restart saw Kops in the lead and Bicca on the outside.

Paes led the field to the Lap 14 restart. He had Kops coming behind and pushing him to get by JC Nóbrega, who started on the outside lane.  Soon enough, JC would fall to fourth place, losing third to Bicca, and trying to hold-off Sergio Calizário before falling to fifth running on the outside. Rafael Matta closed-in but remained in sixth. Again, the yellow flag came out, this time caused by an accident between Caique Ribeiro and Rodrigo Lellis, who pushed Caique, causing the sim-racer to spin, hit the wall hard and suffer serious damage.

The race restarted at Lap 20 and, finally, led to a long green flag run.  The fight for the lead between Paes and Kops continued, with Paes in first.  At least until Kops overtook him on Lap 38, now with JC Nóbrega third and Marcos Bicca fourth. Anderson would soon fall to fourth place, running on the outside. When the race’s fourth caution came out, the sim-racers decided to pit, with many of them making their first stop.  The Lap 46 restart saw lead the field to the green flag with JC Nóbrega on his side. Another long green flag stint lasted until Lap 118. and, with it, we saw some cars pitting under green, including the race-leading Kops. Then last caution was out and it was time to pit again, to take advantage of this moment.

Alex Montoanelli did a good race, starting from 25th to finish on the 5th place.

When race restarted for the last time, only eight laps remained. Kops had the lead with Bicca in P2 ahead of Nóbrega and Paes. JC  overhauled Bicca for second place, while Bicca fell behind Pedro Souza with Paes going for third. Alex Montoanelli would soon also leave Bicca behind, climbing up to fifth.

When the 130th lap was completed, the checkered flag waved and Kops earned his third race won of the season, followed by JC Nóbrega, Anderson Paes, Pedro Souza and Alex Montoanelli. Now there’s only one race left to decide who’s going to be the NASCAR Pro Series champion.

Kops vence sua 3ª corrida e Paes lidera no iRacing Brasil

A 9ª corrida da NASCAR Pro Series no iRacing Brasil foi realizada em 7 de abril. Agora, com apenas a final para ser feita, Anderon Paes vem como favorito para vencer o campeonato. Com uma liderança de 339 pontos, ele tem uma pequena vantagem sobre Igor Kops que tem 327 pontos no 2º lugar. Isso signifca que mesmo Kops vencendo pela 4ª vez, tornando-se o piloto com mais vitórias nesta temporada, Paes precisaria terminar dentro do top 10 para levantar a taça. Mas com tantas formas de obter pontos bônus, as coisas podem mudar. Um participante nessa categoria pode receber pontos bônus por terminar a prova, terminar sem incidentes, liderar uma ou mais voltas, liderar pelo maior número de voltas e também por vencer. Então se o piloto for esperto e correr com a cabeça, mesmo que lhe falte velocidade, ainda pode arranjar bons pontos para o campeonato.

Esta corrida, feita em Texas, foi dominada por Igor Kops. Ele venceu, liderou por 92 voltas de 130, não cometeu incidentes e largou da 2ª posição, perdendo a pole para JC Nórega, que também fez a melhor volta da corrida (28.238s na volta 124). Anderson Paes largou da 2ª fila, no 3º lugar, com Pedro Souza em 4º ao seu lado.

Ao contrário de Martinsville, a última corrida antes do Texas, esta foi uma etapa com um ritmo mais rápido e mais tranquila, tendo apenas 5 bandeiras amarelas, significando que 20 voltas foram atrás do pace car. Como Texas é uma pista de uma milha e meia, isto era esperado já que os pilotos tem mais espaço para disputar. Mas a primeira amarela viria cedo novamente, na 2ª volta. Diego Vazquez corria pelo lado de fora na curva 4 e se colocou em uma posição ruim atrás de Diego Resende. Eles tiveram contato, Vazquez acertou o muro e ricocheteou para a linha de dentro, encontrando Leonardo Pires e envolvendo-o em uma batida maior junto de Filemon Fábio, Duca Lamego e Marcos Resende. Pires deixou a prova.

A bandeira verde foi dada novamente na volta 7, com Nóbrega ainda liderando e Paes em 2º, com Kops em 3º e Marcos Bicca 4º. Paes ultrapassou Nóbrega na volta 10, quando uma nova amarela também veio, causada por uma colisão entre Filemon Fábio e Marcelo Massa. Marcelo saiu da curva 4 com seu carro perdendo a traseira e foi atingido por Filemon. Marcelo teve de ir para os pits buscando reparos e ninguém mais foi envolvido.

Uma nova relargada foi feita na volta 14 com Paes liderando dessa vez. Ele tinha Kops vindo por trás e o empurrando para passar por JC Nóbrega, que largou por fora, 2º lugar. Rapidamente JC seria o 4º carro, ainda pelo lado de fora. Rafael Matta se aproxima mas continuou sendo o 6º. Novamente a bandeira amarela era agitada, desta vez causada por um acidente entre Caique Ribeiro e Rodrigo Lellis, que tocou Caique, que acabou rodando. Caique atingiu o muro fortemente e danificou bastante seu carro.

A corrida reiniciou na volta 20 e a bandeira verde pode prevalecer por mais tempo. Paes e Kops ainda estavam disputando a liderança e continuariam assim, com Paes na 1ª posição. Kops o ultrapassou na volta 38, agora com JC Nóbrega em 3º e Bicca em 4º. Anderson logo cairia para a 4ª posição, correndo do lado de fora. Quando a 4ª amarela saiu, os pilotos foram ao pit, sendo esta a 1ª parada para muitos. Corrida reiniciada na volta 46 e Kops tinha JC Nóbrega ao seu lado, enquanto liderava. Mais uma longo stint sob bandeira verde foi visto após isso, até a volta 118. Com isso, alguns pilotos tiveram de ir aos pits nessa condição, como Igor Kops, o líder. A última amarela saiu e era hora de retornar ao pit novamente, aproveitando o momento.

Quando a corrida reiniciou pela última vez, apenas 8 voltas restavam. Kops tinha a liderança com Bicca em 2º lugar, Nóbrega 3º e Paes 4º. JC logo ultrapassa Bicca e fica com o 2º lugar, enquanto Bicca perde posição para Pedro Souza, 4º agora, com Paes indo para 3º. Alex Montoanelli logo deixaria Bicca para trás também, subindo para 5º.

Quando a última volta foi completada, Kops venceu pela 3ª vez, seguido por JC Nóbrega, Anderson Paes, Pedro Souza e Alex Montoanelli. Agora falta apenas uma corrida para decidir quem será o campeão da NASCAR Pro Series.
