2025 Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series | Race Preview #6 | Circuit of the Americas
September 4th, 2025 by Justin Melillo
The 2025 Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series concludes with a pair of races scheduled at Circuit of the Americas on Thursday night. After Hot Lap Qualifying via Time Attack from August 29th to the 31st, 20 drivers have qualified for their shot to contend for more than $500,000 in prizes and the opportunity to run in the real-world Skip Barber Formula Race Series.
Race Coverage begins at 7:00 p.m. ET at iRacing.com/live and across iRacing Social Media Channels.
DRIVER ROSTER
The following 20 drivers are entered into the final race of the 2025 season at Circuit of the Americas:

RACE NIGHT FORMAT
Every one of the six races this season will feature two races, each set for a timed amount of 15 minutes, and all competitors utilizing fixed setups.
While all 20 drivers needed to set their fastest times in the official Time Attack leading up to tonight, these pair of races will still be set by one more lone qualifying lap for the opening event. To set the second race grid of the night, the results from the first race will be how that is determined.
Every race offers up to 35 points to the winner, with that making a perfect night a 70 point day in winning both races. The Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series Champion will be determined by the total number of points earned during the season, excluding the lowest two individual race scores which will be deducted to determine the final points. The lowest individual race scores include zeros, disqualifications, and non-participated-in races.
POINTS OUTLOOK

By virtue of potential drop rounds, the top-three are confirmed entering the final two races of the season. While Ayden Young could contend for second in the championship, he cannot mathematically get to Matt Caruana with Caruana’s potential drops, so the title will come down to Caruana and Aaron Vazquezz. Vazquezz only has one path to the title, and that includes winning out, claiming both wins at COTA. However, if Caruana finishes fifth in at least one of the two races, Caruana will earn the title no matter what.
With prizes on the line for fourth and fifth in the championship, as well as the Hard Charger Award in each race, there’s still plenty to race for tonight.
LAST RACE
There were two rounds scheduled at VIRginia International Raceway again in 2025. VIR also played host to the finale to the 2024 season. The common denominator in it all was Matt Caruana, claiming the last possible win in 2024 before sweeping the first two races at VIR earlier in the season on the North Course. Now on the Full Course in the fifth event, Caruana had the sweep on the line. Battling Ayden Young, Caruana claimed the first win. The second race came down to the wire, and two-thousandths of a second, as Caruana pulled out the broom to sweep the season.

LAST YEAR
The 2024 season saw Circuit of the Americas open the campaign with a pair of races around the Grand Prix circuit. It began with the first of five Victor Miranda victories on the season, as he was able to hold off Ivan Machado for the opening round victory. The second race saw Kody Deith join the conversation from the sixth starting spot. Deither managed to get by both Miranda and Machado to claim the victory.
TRACK FACTS
Located in Austin, Texas, Circuit of the Americas was built to bring global Grand Prix championship racing back to the United States. Announced in 2010 and built over the next two years, it did just that in October 2012 when it hosted its first United States Grand Prix. COTA’s 3.426-mile Grand Prix circuit features 20 corners, many of which take inspiration from other classic Grand Prix circuits. Aside from open-wheel racing, COTA has also hosted multiple NASCAR events, and was home to the X Games for a three year stretch.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series is where future stars of real-world motorsport prove themselves in the virtual one. Using the iRacing Formula 4 machine, drivers take part in an open qualifier each week, and the top racers registered in the program are selected to compete on Thursday nights.
The top three point scorers at season’s end will receive a 3 Day Racing School and compete in a shootout later this year for a 2026 Skip Barber Race Series seat. 1 Day Racing School certificates will be awarded to fourth and fifth in points, as well as the Hard Charger Award winner from each race, and all of the qualifiers for each race will earn a one-time $200 credit towards an SBRS course.
