Ayden Young awarded Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series victory; splits wins with Victor Wolfsohn at Lime Rock
July 11th, 2025 by Justin Melillo
Round 2 of the 2025 Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series took 20 of the top-rated drivers to Lime Rock Park on Thursday night for another double dose of action. Last week, it was Matt Caruana from the United Kingdom who claimed both victories at Sebring. This week, it was looking as though Victor Wolfsohn from Denmark would do the same after winning the opening race, but a last lap penalty in the second race forced Wolfsohn down the order, initially handing a third win on the season to Caruana.
“I saw the gap open up,” Caruana said post-race. “I went up his inside. (Wolfsohn) got a slowdown, which is unfortunate, but I didn’t push him off or anything. He just exceeded the track limits, so it’s unfortunate, but yeah, I enjoyed it. We had a good race.”
On Saturday, Skip Barber officials made the results official, and there were some race-changing penalties handed down. While Wolfsohn had already gotten a penalty in the game in the second race, both he and Caruana were dinged six seconds each, Wolfsohn for blocking and Caruana for avoidable contact. The third place finisher, Ayden Young, who was also given a penalty, but in the first race, was awarded the second race win. Caruana wound up eighth after the penalty, with Wolfsohn finishing 10th. Caruana maintains the points lead over Young by eight points leaving Lime Rock.
RACE #1

Chile’s Felipe Cabrera Loyola scored the pole position for the opening race, and led the field to the green to start the first of two 15-minute events. On Cabrera’s outside was Victor Wolfsohn, looking for his first career win in the series. After three laps of back-and-forth action, Wolfsohn was able to get the advantage over Cabrera and take the lead. Cabrera fell down the order, allowing for Aaron Vazquezz (Spain), Ryan Micallef, and Matt Caruana to go through.
Caruana once again was plagued by a middle-of-the-pack starting spot, coming from the fifth row, but his pace was once again mostly unmatched. By the time Caruana got to the podium, Wolfsohn and Vazquezz were both checked out from the rest of the pack, fighting amongst themselves for the majority of the show.

With only a handful of laps remaining, Vazquezz cut the corner in the chicane too deep, incurring a slowdown penalty. This allowed for Caruana to get by as Vazquezz slipped off of the podium. Micallef, who pressured Caruana for a good chunk of laps, ultimately fell off from the top-two and it was a duel for the win in the closing laps.
As the laps wound down, behind the leaders, chaos emerged. Victor Miranda, the 2024 series champion, made his return to the series, but not in the way he had hoped. Miranda was caught up in the chaos, and wound up finishing 19th in his return. Back up front, Caruana closed in on Wolfsohn, but Wolfsohn held on for his first win in the series, claiming the top starting spot as well in the second race. On Saturday following the penalty report, Ayden Young, who initially finished in sixth, was relegated to seventh after incurring a six-second penalty for avoidable contact.
“Sebring was fine,” Wolfsohn started in his post-race interview. “A bit disappointing, I would have like a podium in both races. This is a nice revenge, you could say, to get on the top step.”

RACE #2

While the first race ended with some chaos, the second race brought the chaos from the opening lap. Once again, Victor Miranda was caught up in calamity, finishing last in the second half of his night. Attrition was on the cards, as by the end of the sixth lap, only three-quarters of the field remained.
The battle up front was even closer than before. So close, that the smallest misstep could cost a driver a ton of positions. That’s exactly what happened to Vazquezz, who slipped up in the first chicane this time, catching some air before landing on all fours, but now down in 11th place.

Up front, the battle was on between Caruana and Wolfsohn once more. Ayden Young had also joined the fray as the laps wound down, and the three would be in the conversation until the last lap. This time, Caruana was the car in charge, but Wolfsohn managed to get back by a lap prior.
With the defense turned up to the max, Wolfsohn, Caruana, and Young all wound up three-wide for a brief moment in the final chicane, all bouncing off of one another. Wolfsohn managed to escape as the leader, but his celebration was brief. Just like Vazquezz in the previous race, in the same spot, Wolfsohn cut the corner too deep, which incurred a slowdown penalty. Caruana slipped by on the frontstretch to initially claim the victory.
After post-race penalties were applied on Saturday, Young wound up the winner, despite crossing the line second. Micallef earned second place, and it was Guglielmo Callegari (United States) taking the final step on the podium. Caruana was relegated to eighth with Wolfsohn scoring 10th.

Leaving Lime Rock, Caruana continues to lead over Young and Vazquezz. Wolfsohn is in fourth following the penalty. Winning the championship, like Victor Miranda did last season, is a fine accolade, but placing inside the top-three is the main goal for all competing drivers, as that is the same prize across the board.
The top three point scorers at season’s end will receive a 3 Day Racing School and compete in a shootout later this year for a 2026 Skip Barber Race Series seat. 1 Day Racing School certificates will be awarded to fourth and fifth in points, as well as the Hard Charger Award winner from each race, and all of the qualifiers for each race will earn a one-time $200 credit towards an SBRS course.
Next up for the series is the first of two trips to VIRginia International Raceway, taking on the North Course. Last season, the series took on the Grand Course and the Full Course, with Victor Miranda winning once on each layout, Ivan Machado winning on the Grand, and Matt Caruana winning on the Full.
The Hot Lap Qualifier is active from Friday, July 18th, at 12 a.m. ET to Sunday, July 20th at 11:59 p.m. ET.
The entry fee for each Hot Lap Qualifier is $20, and the top 20 drivers on the Time Attack leaderboard will be invited to run each race. They’ll also get to take part in an open test with Skip Barber Racing School instructors on hand to provide feedback.
The race itself is scheduled for Thursday, July 24th, once again at 7 p.m. ET. It will be live on iRacing.com/live and across all of iRacing’s social media channels.
