Connor Barry Becomes Inaugural iRacing Off-Road Champion at Crandon

Altus Esports’ Killian Dall’olmo and Team General Tire’s Cam Pedersen took the race wins, but it was Pedersen’s teammate Connor Barry who would end Wednesday night’s iRacing Off Road Championship Series finale at Crandon International Raceway presented by Vision Wheel as the champion. Barry takes home the largest share of the $25,000 purse after finishing third in the first feature and sixth in the second to lock in a 25-point championship advantage over Factory Simsport’s Keaton Swane.

Pedersen locked up the season-long Vision Wheel Pole Award with the fastest qualifying time of the night, but Christopher Plumley would get the jump on Crandon’s famous 10-wide landrush start to lead the first lap and take the Big Green Egg Green Flag Award. But pressure from Dall’olmo would see the lead change hands on Lap 2, and he’d never look back; his brother Quentin would jump into second a few laps later.

The second race would see a similar split, with one driver leading nine laps and the other just one, but in the opposite direction. Team General Tire’s Jakob Rafoss would launch into the lead, aiming to take his second checkered flag of the year and earning a Big Green Egg Green Flag Award of his own, but Pedersen would shadow him lap in and lap out as they pulled away from the field. Finally, after taking the white flag, the Canadian would make his move, getting off the final corner just a little bit better to win his series-leading fourth race of the year by just .105 seconds.

Barry and Swane entered the night split by just 14 points, but it was the first race that told the story between them. Thanks to a cleaner start, Barry would lock up third place in the first race, while Swane would fight valiantly to come home ninth—just missing the eight-truck invert for lane choice for the second race. Swane would respond with a fifth place run in the finale, but with Barry just behind him in sixth, most of the incoming gap would stand.

Multiple drivers tied for both CBR Hard Charger Awards on the night, with Team General Tire’s Brandyn Proudfoot and Legion Speedsports’ Tom Grady tying for most spots gained in the first race with 10 and Jim Beaver eSports’ Felix Roy, SET Esports’ Tommi Hallman, and Williams Esports’ Josh Fox each gaining seven spots in the second. Prior to the sim racing pros, the All-Star season wrapped up with Volkswagen Beetle Lites in action, with Zachary Drapkin and Wes “The Mess” Graham taking the victories. Drapkin and Luke Knupp, both real-world off-road racers, tied for most points on the season with 578, with Knupp edging out Drapkin on race wins, 7-5.
