Grand Prix Turn Racing iRacing Series Race Preview: Zandvoort

The Grand Prix Turn Racing iRacing Series hits the halfway point of its 2023 season on Thursday with a trip to the Netherlands and Circuit Zandvoort. The action kicks off at 19:00 GMT (3PM ET) and will stream live across iRacing social media channels.

Last Race: Przemyslaw Marek Lemanek led 16 of 27 laps, scored his first win of the season, and took the championship lead with a victory at Silverstone Circuit last Thursday. Polesitter Edoardo Leo took the fastest lap early on in soft tires, but Lemanek stayed in the hunt through the draft, gained the lead through an undercut on his pit stop, and had enough of a gap to hang on for the win as Marcos Núñez and Jarl Teien fought through the field to complete the podium.

Last Season: The version of Zandvoort coming up this week is iRacing’s newest track release, debuting with the 2023 Season 4 build in September. As a result, this is its debut on the iRacing pro esports level.

Track Facts: Opening in its initial form in 1948 and quickly becoming the host of the Dutch Grand Prix, Circuit Zandvoort has long been a mainstay of the Drivers’ World Championship—hosting it first in 1955 and almost every season from then to 1985, and once again since 2021. The track was dramatically shortened in 1990 and began to take its current shape nearly a decade later. Banking was added to Turns 3 and 14 in 2020 to prepare for the return of the Dutch Grand Prix, but most other corners—including the first-corner Tarzanbocht hairpin—were untouched.

Next Up: The sixth round of the 2023 Grand Prix Turn Racing iRacing Series sends the series to the Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle on Thursday, October 19. The second of three American rounds on the calendar, and the only street course of the season, Detroit is yet another new circuit for the 2023 campaign.
