Road to Pro — iGPS

The final act of the 2013S2 iGPS plays out on the treacherous chicanes of Zolder.

With the Season 2 portion of the 2013 year about to close, drivers in the iRacing.com Grand Prix series are still vying for positions in the iRacing.com Road Pro Series. Unlike competition for the NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series, this last week of races is really only down to two drivers vying for one spot remaining.

With this week being at Zolder, we likely will not see the strong Strength of Fields (SoF) that have characterized previous weeks. Although with that said, even with low SoF the championship and the Top Ten are still up for grabs.

Assuming that a maximum of 180 points are given out for this weeks races, the magic number is 1515 points and these following scenarios apply.

CHAMPIONSHIP

This is where the championship lies. Joonas Nukarinen holds a one point lead over Paolo Muià. That might not seem like much but drop points do take effect here. If Paolo gets a strong strength of field going and he scores more than 187 points he will win the championship, assuming Joonas does not score 205 or more.

Robin Friskopps is also in the hunt as, with his low drop, he can jump to the top of the board with 172 points scored. Although once Robin clinched his spot into the Top Ten he has not participated in the last two weeks. Even if he does not tow his Williams-Toyota Fw31 to Zolder he has a great shot of winning the championship.

CLINCHED

All of these drivers have clinched a spot into the Top Ten spots in the iRacing.com Road Pro Series. Congratulations are in order for these sim-racers.

THE FINAL BATTLE

These drivers are in the running for the last remaining spot. If we see a 2800 SoF there will be enough points for Ryosuke Iwasaki to bump Mikko Meriluoto. Ryosuke has a low drop which is keeping him in the running this week. If he can obtain 157 points, which is obtainable based on last season’s SoF with the track, he can bump Mikko if Mikko does not gain.

Of course Mikko can clinch if he can scores 157 points as well and Ryosuke would not be able to pass him. The ball is in Mikko’s court and he can determine if he can hold on to the Top Ten or if Ryosuke can pull off the upset.

ELIMINATED

These drivers were eliminated last week.

So there you have it well at least the way I see it. Good Luck to the championship drivers and the Top Ten drivers this weekend. Also good luck to all those drivers who have clinched their way into the Road Pro Series.
